WTF, seriouisly, how are they still in business?
Discussion
They look OK, but I couldn’t live with the dash they fit in most of them. Ugly as hell and you can’t see the dials. Much the same as Renault - we’ve got a Clio hire car at the moment which looks quite nice, drives well but has an absolutely grim interior. Nasty styling and cheap materials.

So that's peugeot, dacia and vauxhall dealt with and its only Monday.
Who's going to start the next "this manufacturer is st, why do people by these cars" thread?
Exactly this. Just another dogst thread by some angry wker with a chip on his shoulder about a car they don't agree with. Who's going to start the next "this manufacturer is st, why do people by these cars" thread?

OK, Hyundai?
Not if you look at the sales and JD Power reports. Kai and Hyundai are the same company...

I get where you're coming from but wouldn't say I'm biased (I would say that wouldn't I?!)
Obviously I don't expect it to emulate a performance marque or a 90s car in any way. At the end of the day it has to get me the length of the M3 and some rural and then home again, it's a tool for a job and that is the end of it. But why does it have to be such a stty tool? Do they not think about little things like the driving position and functionality of the big computer in the middle of the dash in the design office? Do they have a design office? Gutless engines and bland interiors are fine for the purpose, mundane would be good, if it at least worked properly.
Imagine going in to HSS And hiring a cement mixer that had the loading hatch 1.5m up in the air on the top of the drum. You'd say "well, that's a fking stupid way to do it, what's wrong with these people?!" wouldn't you? Or a Vax that weighed 50 kg and had no wheels or a handle too small for a human hand. Would you be biased to criticise a crap design just because you have something at home that does it better?
I can't comment about the competition as I haven't driven it, bar a Focus which had a horrible shiny interior but at least the ergonomics were good. I suppose if all people want is 4 wheels and a wifi connection for the smallest £ pcm then that's job done, but if this car is the best in class I despair to think what the rest of it must be like.
I can agree with you on the gearbox (as a rule on PSA cars : 5 speed are awful, 6 speed are OK but none is really great) and the touchscreen (it's much better with some physical buttons as on the new 3008, but hey, people want a touchscreen these days and the bigger the better).Obviously I don't expect it to emulate a performance marque or a 90s car in any way. Apart from that, from what I remember it's OK. The Captur on the other hand (the best-selling cars in this category in Europe), is truly one or two steps below (engine, gearbox, fit and finish, you name it). But it sells, because it's not expensive and it has nice color touches.
So whilst I don't know if the 2008 is the best in its class, it's definitely not the worst.
And as for Peugeot in general, test a 208 GTi by Peugeot Sport while they still make it, I'm pretty sure it would change your mind (210 horsepower, manual gearbox and LSD on a small hatch... should be more in line with the PH spirit )

I recently bought my son an old 206 as his first car, not expecting much but I love nipping about in it. Gives a good sensation of speed despite going slow, a great little fun car.
I've never had a Pug before and from how this humble little and old 206 is, I cannot understand the bad press they get.

Sometimes referred to as the Capturd in the trade but yes they are popular.Murphy16 said:

My pet hate cars are Audi's (particularly the lower models), I think that generally they are overpriced VAG cars sold purely on image. But does that mean the manufacturer is st or they're just not for me...?
But it's worth noting that according to just about every recent reliability measure, Peugeots tend to have a lot less issues than anything coming out of Germany
Peugeot is now the no.2 SUV manufacturer in Europe and growing fast. Customers like their Frenchness and cheapness.
Hopefully, good news for Vauxhall. Because if Peugeot is in good shape worldwide, then it may eventually have a halo effect on the local Vauxhall brand.
Know someone who works for Peugeot in Paris and the benefits they get are incredible. Free food, heavily subsidized holidays and weekend breaks, big car discounts, etc. Renault workers in Paris also get similar and even better deals.

It amazes me how so many on here wax lyrical about how terrible anything mundane and non premium is, despite it being perfectly adequate, if not exciting or enjoyable, then get all animated and wistful about something from the sixties that will be truly grim in most ways, like original Minis, yet they are cute and fun but actually terrible in many ways.
I sometimes wonder what the motivation is, am sure the Peugeot thing isnt the last word but it will do the job, even if it doesnt stir the soul or raise any emotion.

I've had my 206 GTI(55 plate) for the best part of three years. Paid £1300 for it. Spent £36 on a second-hand n/s door mirror and £40 on a second-hand yaw controller, both off eBay. Put new filters and oil in which cost me ~£35. Only get low-30s mpg, but to me it's been cheap, fun motoring. Everything works on it. *touches wood*
Our company car park has a surprising number of 206s in it, from X-reg onwards. They certainly don't appear to rust at the same rate as BMWs and Mercs of the same vintage.
