I'd rather this not be a discussion on the ethics of car flipping, but more about the stories and experiences of people have have/do so...
Well that went well.

Judging by whisky you have 2 types of flippers. Those who don't about about the item in question and are just selling it for a profit as they can.

Then there is the enthusiast, who loves the thing in question, but when the chance of a profit comes they will go for it. This helps cover the cost of their hobby, or even pays them back more for the enjoyment.

The first lot I dislike, the second lot is fine, but in the long term it pushes prices up until it likely pops at some point.

There was a period of time when the DVLA systems didn’t catch up the private plate systems and when adding a private plate to a car and the V5 was reissued, any previous Cat statement disappeared. I found this out by happy accident.

It was still recorded when HPI’d via VIN but the basic text checks (new at the time) didn’t pick it up.

I know of quite a few cars that were flipped in this manner by a friend masquerading as a private seller (flipped about 40 cars in a few mths this was with cheap £79 plates on them)

On this topic, I am only mildly annoyed at Porsche, as I would have loved a GT3 Touring as a forever car but it simply does not exist, while none of their other offers is appealing to me. (personal first world problem, I know).

It would have been great if Porsche had made as many GT3s as they could sell but I guess there's more profit in a 991s or Targa even with the list price gap.

I don't really understand how you can 'forget' you ordered a Porsche. It's not exactly forgetting to pick up a pint of milk.
Oh i don't know....There's a chap on here that can't remember where he put his Ferrari 250. Apparently it's somewhere in the UK and will pop up one of these days.

Possibly one of the best threads on PH and a top bloke to boot.

Can't say I'm a flipper as I've never bought a car with the intention of making a profit, so have accidentally done so, but 5 times.

Starting in the US, I owned a Subaru Impreza RS 3 door for 2 years/15k miles and sold for $1,250 profit

Again in the US, owned a Chevrolet Blazer (even in Gold) for 9 months (I moved back) and sold for £500 more than I paid for it

in the UK, Had an AMV8 Vantage Roadster, collected on NYE 2008, got rid of in May (it was woeful and possibly the most disappointing car I've ever owned) - sold for £5.5k profit

Subaru Legacy (just a norm 2.5 saloon), owned for 18 months, 20k miles, sold for £500 more than paid

And finally, for now, bought a K11 Micra Auto for £200 (only had 1 months MoT), sold 13 months later with 12 months MoT for £825.....

TBF he did have a brain tumour.

If you follow his instagram you'll see he also had a rolling mclaren chassis he forgot to pick up. You know you buy a lot of cars when Mclaren give you that as a goodwill gesture (and sell you their licence plate they said they would never sell to anyone)
