Prefer these to the GTV
I went the other way - having tried a standard V6 GT and finding it less satisfying than the diesel Passat in which I drove to the seller's. I now have a 1999 GTV V6 and it's great.

Maybe, as other people have mentioned, attending to the handling is the way to get the best out of it.

It looks fine to me, better than the Fiat Coupe.

Nice enough but for that price, I think I'd rather have a 147 GTA. I just think they look better and it has that all important A at the end of the badge.

I owned three of these. One of my biggest automotive regrets was letting the last one go. KJ54 GBX is still running, on double the mileage I did. I hope whoever owns it now is treating her well.

As others have said though: £8,500? That's not just top-money, that's madness-money..

Well, the seller claims to have spent £1100 on doing the cambelt, so maybe there is a theme of over valuing things! If he really did spend £1100 I guess he doesn't use McLennans for servicing, which is the go to Alfa specialist up here in Edinburgh (and far beyond!).

The A at the end of the badge doesnt mean what it once did though (as in alegrita) . Sure a 147 GTA will have more hardcore suspenion then the GT, and the V6 has been fettled over so slightly more, but im guessing you can make a GT perform like a GTA without too much effort, aftermarket shocks/springs and perhaps sway bars should get you there.

That said, id rather have a GTA as well, i like how the GT looks, but the GTA is indeed more special.

I think it's more about the perceived cache of the GTA badge rather than any major mechanical differences tbh plus the GT looks good from some angles but can look a bit ill proportioned and blobby from others whereas the 147 GTA looks good from any angle. In fact I'd still rate it amongst the best looking hot hatches ever. I may have to scratch that Busso itch one day and and if I do, it will mostly likely be in shape of a 147.

Agreed 100%

A 147 GTA is probably #1 on my lottery list, above any ferrari etc.. and i suspect if i ever get my hands on one, ill never let it go. But given pricing (and my finances), im guessing that if i ever scratch the busso itch, it'll be a 156

Tidy, understated and beauiful. Every car they put that V6 into should have the option of a transparent bonnet.

I loved my GT, got complimented everywhere it went. And space for the family too.

Looks bloated and more bland compared to say, a GTV. Appreciate it's a later model.
At least still features a V6!
