Would seem odd that the Kuga, the Nissan and the X3's that I've been in seem to ride worse than their car equivalents yet cost more, the X3 was the only one that seemed to have a bigger boot. They are the absolute definition of an appliance, no kid will ever aspire to own a Kadjar, whether it's in 5 years or 25. Cars like the Ford Cortina, Ford Sierra, Peugeot 405, Citroen BX and even the MK1 Mondeo are cars that get collected, I just don't see that being the case with a Qashqai, they're completely dull. As I said, why not buy a hatchback instead of a car that's no more capable but more expensive? If you want a 4x4 then why not buy one that's actually capable, has much more room inside and a better driving position? If you want cargo space then why not buy an estate? Why buy a car that tries to do it all and ends up doing none of it to a high standard?
I don't think you understand market segmentation. Not everyone is making cars that are supposed to appeal to "kids".As has been pointed out by people who actually own them, your prejudices about crossovers are pretty wide of the mark (read: factually incorrect).
As for a 405, BX, Sierra and Mondeo...the deluded few who buy these only do so through some sense of nostalgia, not because they are good cars in any sense of the word. Who is to say that the same reasons (nostalgia) won't cause people to want to buy these crossovers in 30 years time?

Funny, the 405, Sierra and the Mondeo sound like pretty good cars the the rave reviews they got. They must be wrong though. As has been pointed out by people who actually own them, your prejudices about crossovers are pretty wide of the mark (read: factually incorrect).

I might be wrong but I don't think Porsche would have quite the same image they have today if they had started with the Cayenne.
To be honest I don't get this, it's got no image, it looks tacky - the small SUV market would be better served by a (less powerful) Tiguan IMHO
And why on earth did they not launch the brand with the Leon Cupra R? Surely that would have been a bit more "Cupra"?
They didn't launch the brand with the LCR, that's SEAT. They launched the brand with this, there's also a Cupra Ibiza - Same platofrm and styling as the new Polo GTI.To be honest I don't get this, it's got no image, it looks tacky - the small SUV market would be better served by a (less powerful) Tiguan IMHO

But if you want to put an old rotted tinbox on a pedestal, fill your boots, not everyone has the same needs and opinions.

Have you driven them? I have, and owned a few. They were just...average. They were all appliances of their time, just as these crossovers are, but they weren't good cars in any sense.

Driven the MK1 Mondeo, which as I said on another thread was the best car I've ever driven on a motorway, never driven the Sierra, though I'm looking to buy one this summer, in the process of buying a 405 1.9 SRi which I would say is extremely well balanced, composed, intuitive and on a side note is very nicely styled. Never known of the 405 to rot either, same goes for the 205 and 309. But if you want to put an old rotted tinbox on a pedestal, fill your boots, not everyone has the same needs and opinions.

I look forward to seeing where they go with this we love my 280, it’s just a brilliant car all round. Looks nice, it’s a pleasant place to be, yet it’s also unobtrusive, you can leave it anywhere and it handles the commute and traffic jams with ease. The best bit, you then get to take it to a track for a day of fun, making lots of people with track cars scratch their heads and wonder why a family hatchback is going so quickly. They did a fantastic job, the next few Leon’s could be interesting...

Sorry I just don't get SEAT what is their function in the VW group!
To sit below VW (like Skoda) & appeal to "younger" buyers (while Skoda appeals to "older/more particle" buyers). Its the point of the Cupra brand I'm not getting - GTI & R ain't a separate brands why does Cupra need to be?
