Has anyone ever used a DSG / ZF and not liked it?
Discussion
I have just been trying to sort out a hire car for 24 hours to see what I think of each gearbox.
For £85 for 24 hours I can get an M2, will this have the same ZF8 as the M135i?
Am having trouble finding somewhere to hire a Golf GTi with DSG, am trying Liverpool and Manchester as the two closest large cities.

Have you tried a dealer, I've had no issues getting a demo car for a few days in the past For £85 for 24 hours I can get an M2, will this have the same ZF8 as the M135i?

After driving my dads 4 speed slush box recently I can see why people get put off autos, it was almost enough to put me off them! It's incredible how far they've come, I also think half the battle is getting people to actually try them, people can be quick to slate them without even sitting in a car with a DSG/ZF8 box.
The ZF8 is a funny one, they 'rate' them at the same torque as the 135/140 delivers but I believe these are pretty conservative, plenty run 400bhp without issue (short term at least!)

How do they cope with tuning?
Is the DSG in the Golf Gti/R/Cupra good for 400bhp and 400 lb/ft?
Is the M135i ZF8 good for 450bhp and 500 lb/ft?
These seem realistic targets with bolt on mods.
S3/R/Cupra DSG box can deal with 400bhp and whatever torque that provides with a DSG remap. After that there's uprated clutch plates to suit more power. Is the DSG in the Golf Gti/R/Cupra good for 400bhp and 400 lb/ft?

The ZF8 is OEM for cars with north of 500bhp and similar levels of lb ft Torque.Scottie - NW said:

M2 will have M-DCT (dual clutch, like DSG) not a full auto box (like a ZF8)..For £85 for 24 hours I can get an M2, will this have the same ZF8 as the M135i?
