Loudness isn't the same as musicality.
Indeed, this Merc was loud and powerful sounding but musical and nice sounding it certainly wasn't.

Got back this morning and slowly reversed my TVR into the parking space and would have that any day of the week smile

I don’t mind a loud exhaust, today however I think I experienced something even I consider too loud. I was walking through Portsmouth and a Lamborghini LP700 arrived at a set of traffic lights. The whole street was echoing with the drone at idle!! You could even feel it. Then off it shot (sounding better from afar.

Sadly all these pops ,bangs and dsg exhaust farts have become paramount over a nice sounding engine. The Focus RS Mk 2 as a random example had a fantastic sounding engine but the Mk 3 sounds flat and about as unsporting as a regular Focus but it’s ok because it goes off like an AK47 on full auto fire and that’s deemed cool apparently.

I don’t mind the odd over run pop but the current trend for this November the 5th on every gear change does nothing for me.

Not really. Town centre roads at 5:30pm when there are college and school kids as well everyone else leaving from work, down roads wide enough for one car are not really places to be doing 50mph. If you think that is boring then you may want to reconsider your place in life.

At least you don't have to sit in it.

About 25 years ago a 3 or 4 year old child near on my street was killed by a speeding driver. Poor kid never stood a chance and died instantly.

I went to the funeral a few days later and will never forget the look on his parents face; as though their entire world had been taken from them.

Speeding and reckless drivers deserve the book thrown at them as far I am concerned.

Was that a noisy car that did that?

Not a Merc but I was slowing down for a give way when a Ferrari 360 turned into the road that I was shortly going to be turning out of and accelerated hard. It must have hit the red line about the moment it passed me as the shock wave from the sound felt like being hit in the side by a train. Made me smile with joy and even the OH has a look on her face that suggested she was a little moist!

For me, it is rare to hear anything with 8 or more cylinders that sounds anything other than fantastic....

Dont know if you are a c*nt or just trying to be funny from behind a keyboard?
Not wanting to step into this little spat but I think (and please correct me if I am wrong) the point being made, which you've failed to pick up, is that the OP mentions a loud exhaust and wanting to know what is was. Speed wasn't mentioned in relation to this. You brought this up.

I think that we can all agree, despite this being PH, that a child dying as a result of a speeding driver is tragic.

In relation to the loud exhaust, sounds very probable it was a modified C63. They're generally pretty loud anyway, certainly the loudest model as standard that used the 6.2 V8, only requires straight through exhaust and it'll be really bloody loud.

Personally, I like a nice sounding exhaust but not something quite as shouty as mentioned by the OP. I guess at least they have 450bhp+ to back up the noise.

Exactly that. I’m assuming that because Schermerhorn’s post has dissapeared that he’s released I wasn’t trying to be a fool or funny but trying to point out that this thread was relating to noisy exhausts.

There is a current shape Fiesta ST down our way that has been covered in decals, even at sensible speeds through our housing estate it sounds like a fart can along with pops and bangs every second I assume it has anti lag or something.

A pop and bang remap. Although it shags the engine I believe.

Modern 'sports' cars sound terrible. They sound like farts with a few fake pops and bangs. They tend to favour harshness over any sort of musicality. OK, a lot of them have had to downsize so you no longer have the V8 burble/wail, but 6 pots of the 90s just sounded magic in comparison to todays rubbish?

Well I’ll have to confess that I’m the exception to the rule. I bought a C63 estate last week (not new) and I’m driving like a complete dhead. Not in terms of outright pace, but the blip from third to second to first is like heroin.

I do an 80 mile daily commute to work and back but I’m taking even longer routes just so I can hear the burbles, crackles and pops. Like heroin I tell ye!

smile
Must be putting some juice in that doing 80 miles a day hehe Are you powerfully built?
