Well I’ll have to confess that I’m the exception to the rule. I bought a C63 estate last week (not new) and I’m driving like a complete dhead. Not in terms of outright pace, but the blip from third to second to first is like heroin.
I do an 80 mile daily commute to work and back but I’m taking even longer routes just so I can hear the burbles, crackles and pops. Like heroin I tell ye!
Must be putting some juice in that doing 80 miles a day Are you powerfully built?I do an 80 mile daily commute to work and back but I’m taking even longer routes just so I can hear the burbles, crackles and pops. Like heroin I tell ye!

I have one average 20-22mpg 70% mway rest town and usually lights on at 220 miles. Been off this week so no commuting just short town/gym trips it’s down to 15!
Nice! I was contemplating one earlier this year, decided it's too soon in my automotive career. Opting for a well spec'd M235i auto instead S9JTO said:

Nice! I was contemplating one earlier this year, decided it's too soon in my automotive career. Opting for a well spec'd M235i auto instead P.S even managed 30mpg on a long run upto Scotland didn’t think I would see that from a 6.2.
Most cars can be driven semi quietly and it is always nice to hear something interesting, but it's the driving too fast in inappropriate places and revving in an attention seeking manner that grates, there is some knob with a V10 R8 who does it, it will, being a modern car and not some lumpy crammed, light flywheeled, carburated old race car, idle perfectly happily without assistance from the driver blipping it constantly.
I hear some fantastic sounding stuff being hammered down the bypass, that is where it should be unleashed, where the noise is a byproduct of using the performance, not for attention whoring in high streets and car parks.

The sooner we can make aftermarket exhausts illegal, the better.
I may need to post this in the unpopular opinions thread, too.
The irony is that this may well have been standard - just with the flaps held open.I may need to post this in the unpopular opinions thread, too.
Aftermarket exhausts that are WAY too loud already are illegal - and not just under C&U, but Mr MOT should fail 'em, too.

Which in the real world I would bet is quicker than a c63 especially down a twisty B road but for me the decider was that sound track! Always wanted a v8 since a child and thought this would be my last chance the way cars are going and before other commitments (kids!) etc mean I wouldn’t be able to afford one!
P.S even managed 30mpg on a long run upto Scotland didn’t think I would see that from a 6.2.
Yeah you're probably right, the general running costs and lack of warranty is a bit scary. But from what I've heard that 6.2 is virtually bulletproof - Just feels too early to own one of my dream cars. I'll definitely be getting one in the coming years before it'll be almost impossible to own such a car!P.S even managed 30mpg on a long run upto Scotland didn’t think I would see that from a 6.2.
Never having owned any car with a loud pipe, I'd not normally comment on this subject.
However, a colleague recently bought a "Gangsta" look Lexus IS250 (black bodywork, tinted rears, black alloys) with Powerflow back boxes. It is loud, make no mistake, but the cold winter days really get embarrassing. It's a V6 (obvs) that - when warm - burbles nicely enough, but when extended sounds, well, shyte. Starting when cold is a fking joke. It automatically revs to about 1.5k for a cold idle, and the noise is an obnoxious "bbbbwwwAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA".
A few weeks ago, we both had to attend a site meeting up in Cheshire and usually I'd drive. On this occasion, I couldn't be arsed so asked matey to drive.
Now, shortly after he bought the Lexus I asked him whether the noise got tiring over long distances. Apparently not, I was told, because on a constant throttle at motorway speeds one doesn't notice.
Well. Halfway along the M54, the exhaust noise was sort of bearable but I noticed the position of the gear lever. I said, 'I thought these had six speed 'boxes'. He confirmed this, and then changed up into 6th gear. Christ almighty! It set off a resonance that made the chassis vibrate, and was painful to listen to in the cabin. It got more daft on the A41, where - at every opportunity - on downhill stretches he'd flick into neutral and coast to calm the noise down!!
I do like a purposeful exhaust note. On the Shropshire Hoon 2016, we all egged on the DB9 with its de-catted system and the Lola T70 sounded beyond awesome.
Sometimes, though, standard exhaust systems are enough IMO.

Having spent too much time at racetracks, drag strips etc for decades one of the most addictive aspects is the noise. There are some nice sounding road cars- old 911s , anything with a smallblock Chevy, Ferrari V16s and 12s (you can keep the horrid flat plane V8 noise) - but there are far more which are just loud , absurdly so .Engine noise appeals to everybody's inner 8year old but come on , it's a small country and some choices made of where and when to deploy full noise suggest that some drivers really could not give a damn about anybody else . Giving a residential area the opportunity to hear your shouty AMG or similar ubercar in the small hours just confirms many people's views of 'petrolheads'- loathsome term ...
This will ruffle feathers.
I have the runt of the litter,
Facelift A45 mapped with an intake, with both resonators cut out, Well Mercedes take 1 out for you if you spec an AMG upgraded exhaust.
So basically I have cut one out myself. And yep it's loud, It pops and bangs flames out whenever it feels like it!
I don't give a st what miserable old sts think, Or to be honest anybody else.
I didn't pay my money to listen to somebody's else's opinion,
Don't worry if I see one of our finest I'll hit the switch closing the valves putting me into stealth mode
To be honest it basically sounds like a road going WRC car in my honest opinion.
Or would everybody like a "Golf R" that sounds like st and quiet outside but gets a nice "V8" sound played to you through your speakers.

Of course it does.Nobody thinks "Oh, look, there goes a raging bell-end." No, of course they don't. They think you're a hero, a god among men.
basically the only thing that stops the car being good for 650bhp is the gearbox and turbo.
What's not WRC about it?
