I don't have a picture to hand, but we had a dark blue 3.0sd with cream leather and wood for 3 years, remapped to around 320bhp and over 500 lb/ft. Seriously fast car. As a matter of interest, who remapped yours?
Not very PH but as a fan (and previous owner) of 2cv's, this was advertised locally for £1000 with 33k miles so I had to have it as a station car for the OH; the previous owner trailered it to their house in the South of France each summer which is why the mileage is so low.
I spent last weekend replacing the wiring for the needlessly complicated roof mechanism, replacing the poorly designed glass hatch hinge and re-siliconing in the leaky boot trim, but I feel emotionally attached to it and look forward to using it with the roof down in the summer, which currently feels a long way off!

This, my esteemed peers, is a 1999 base model VW Polo 1.9D (non turbo), three cylinder special, (although it does sometimes run on all four pots). It has, I’d estimate, around 40bhp. It’s 0-60 time is ‘eventually’ and will happily keep up with the HGV’s on the motorway until I get to a hill, at which point the trucks at 56mph will start to pull away from me.
It’s been clocked back to only 151’000 miles. The thermostat is stuck open, the clutch release bearing grumbles, the central locking is possessed, it returns around 30mpg and uses only 0.5 to 0.75 litres of oil per tank of diesel.
It hasn’t been washed, (besides the lights), or cleaned inside since May 2015 and is riddled with rust. With such a unique and high value vehicle, the purchase of my 2nd hand winter tyres cost as much as what the car is worth and filling up with diesel can double the value of the car.
So, if you’re after crapness I think you’ve found it right here.

Only had three cars, none of them PH-worthy, one of them openly considered to be amongst the worst cars on sale according to PHers.
2004 1.4 Megane - had the arse so I always thought it was a good looking car, was a big car to have my mates in at 17/18
2009 1.2 Corsa - apparently an absolute stbox to most on here but it got me from A to B and had an aux input so I could plug my iPod/phone in and play music.
2015 1.4 Ibiza - current car. Again not PH worthy but I can't afford much and it's been driven all over the country with no hassle whatsoever. Has Bluetooth for connecting my phone to play music and make calls, has sat nav and I've managed 50mpg+ on a run down to the south of Wales and back before. Understeers a bit on the Evo Triangle but that just reminds me to keep it at sensible speeds and just enjoy the roads instead of being a dhead.
Was insured on a 1.4 MiTo 135 for a short while and loved it. Light little pocket rocket compared to what I normally drove and genuinely a bit of good fun. Ride was bloody awful mind.
My 20's have been a mess of depression, suicide attempts, anxiety, panic attacks and so on so I've barely been able to hold a job down for too long and have been interspersed with failed attempts at uni where I've not needed a car either. Hopefully gonna become a counsellor and have a steady income to enjoy better cars in my 30's instead.
Because of the depression I had no sense of self-preservation for a long, long time and it meant my driving was awful. I binned both the Megane and the Corsa in spectacular fashion so it's probably a really good idea that I didn't have anything remotely quick.
My father has a 5.0 XK and it's glorious. Perhaps at some point in the future he'll trust me enough to let me have a go. Similarly my sister has a current gen 2.0 TT which also looks and sounds great. Once I'm working more often I'll be able to insure myself on it and drive it when she doesn't need it which is something to look forward to even if a lot of people on here would dismiss the TT as a hairdressers car.
Been fortunate enough to still have a car when I've needed it so I've appreciated all three immensely even if none of them are exciting.
Also been fortunate enough to drive a couple of sports/supercars on driving experience days so I can see how the other half live and dream for a bit so I'm fairly content with my lot all things considered.

A car which I've defended many times on threads where there is Vauxhall bashing!
56 reg Astra 1.6. Owned for 8 years now, apart from 2rear springs for an mot, and a recall for an electronic problem it hasn't broken down or fallen apart.
My last couple cars I've kept for around 3- 4 years each so this is the longest I've owned any car. It just keeps going, and doesn't give me any trouble, so have no plans to get rid of it just yet.

Many of the suggested motors so far don't really meet the OP's criteria of "PH says". The ST170 and the x type have been the best examples so far I think, though I did hear that a mk1 focus RS with morettes will have twice as much torque steer and develops a specific gravitational pull for carbon fibre
However, I own a car which has already had its engine slagged off in this very thread, and has been on the rough end of some very nasty SOTW comments, I give you the MG TF . Quite why PH has so much hate for them I cannot fathom, since they are both prettier and better handling than an mx-5, with the added advantage of being disgustingly cheap, and sufficiently common that there are plenty of spares about.
I fitted some Toyo r1r tyres to mine and now even the brakes seem passable, I really enjoy driving it, and I'm glad I paid no attention to the PCP diesel dullards who clog this place up these days

My Mum has had these for years. Her first was the well-loathed facelift of the original in Tropic Green with the 2.0, identical to this:
She bought it at 10,000 miles and drove it until it was written off by a van in the lanes at 150,000. It spent most of those miles in the Cornish lanes and only ever needed multiple wheel bearings and a catalytic converter. Even the original exhaust that our mechanic thought was on its way out when she first bought it was still fine until the end.
She managed to rear-end somebody in it prior to the final accident, and somehow her insurance company paid to get it fixed! She even drove it around with the bonnet crumpled whilst she waited for repair!
Sometimes we'd wonder why it sounded a bit rough, before realising that the oil was right at the bottom of the dipstick. Great car!
Once it was written off, it was of course replaced with a 2008 Coupe 2.0 TSIII, this time in a much more agreeable white.

Still running my '98 Hyundai Coupe F2, which I've had 15 years. This photo is from when I was fitting winter tyres a couple of months ago, using some spare F2 Evolution rims.
At 160,000 miles it's no longer my daily driver, don't know why I still keep it really, it doesn't do very much these days. (Now have a Swift Sport for day-to-day running around). It's probably because it's not worth anything... the old Hyundai is one of those cars that doubles in value if it has a full tank of petrol :-)
Still ridiculously reliable, it reminds me of a piece of old farm machinery... rugged, never cleaned, agricultural, but just keeps going.
Like your mum's, it has had a weakness for wheel bearings. However apart from that, 100% dependable... the cat etc are all original, and the head's never been off. Had to have the sills welded a few years ago, and there's a few bubbles over the rear arches now, but no major problems.
Really rare now, only about 50 F2's remain out of a production run of about 1200! Might try and keep this until it's the last one..

Not so much a st car, but all bar one (yours of course) have been leased by weapons-grade bell-ends. For example, the only time I have ever had someone actually try to cause a crash was an X6M50dti56Z (I may have imagined the last few characters)donkmeister said:

They arent bad little cars, not what i'd pick for long journeys or performance, but it works and costs pennies to keep running
