My wife has a 13 reg Fabia 1.2 TSi. It is often derided as having a dull cabin. Un-distracting I would call it, rather than dull. A totally capable car on all roads, with plenty of room for four adults, all within 4 metre length. I have a 335d, but my best car was probably a Volvo 740GL estate. When our boys were at home, then on holiday, you just bung what you want in and go - going to France and Germany would always involve a cricket bag with stumps, pads, bats and all, plus the rugby, soccer and tennis gear. I like a capable car, sometimes an exciting car, but if people need to get ALL their fun from a car, there is something wrong.

I don’t think PH hates my car. I’d say it’s more ambivalent/unaware of it. It’s Japanese (which is ok). Small hatch back (still ok). Diesel (booo!).
It’s a Mitsubishi colt cz 3 Di-d and I absolutely love it! It cost me 2050 quid and I’ve had it three years. In that time it’s needed to rear brake drums sorting and that’s it (other than consumables). It’s for a quoted 0-60 time of 9.9 seconds, which is quick enough-ish. It does 54+mpg no matter what I do and the rear seats fold right up so the back is totally flat and large enough for a dishwasher! Brilliant little thing.

Sorry to derail the thread but i own a BMW i3.... Yes, the Anti-Christ of all things petrol head. an EV.

But it costs me £19 in electricity to do 1000 miles and still surprises many a petrol 'hot hatch' off the line

I looked at one of those as a second car, but we concluded our A45 would murder it in its sleep some night hehe

lol - it currently is our second car, and the S3 has ignored it every night since we had it.

(don't tell the S3 but the i3 is soon to be the only car we own while we finish the house to save some money...)

Me, and Mrs OB, both drive Kia diesel dailies.

We neither of us work for Kia, and we both supposedly like a little luxury in life (my last car was a Merc E class). Go figure.
I'm of the unpopular opinion that Kia actually makes nice cars. A year or so back my other half and I spent a day looking around car dealers, including at the new Volvo XC90 and other brands known for their interiors.
At the end of it, the overall brand I was most surprised/impressed by was Kia, which had interiors easily on par with the rest of them.

I googled "2007 ML" to check (mainly which version of the car it was). smile

Old Porsche Cayenne S. 4.8 V8 petrol. Crap registration that came with the car but hides it's age.

Only had it since November but it's been put to good use whilst I've had a new kitchen fitted. Back seats down and you can get a fair bit in the back!

I don't have a picture to hand, but we had a dark blue 3.0sd with cream leather and wood for 3 years, remapped to around 320bhp and over 500 lb/ft. Seriously fast car.

A white Audi A3 Sportback Sport 1.4 auto.

Had it for 4 years and 30,000 miles since new.

I love it. It's quiet, comfortable, fairly spacious, not slow and pretty good on fuel. Handling is a bit dull though but for mile munching and driving round town it is perfect.

Just going back to the Rover 75. When people bang on about Audi and VW interiors being 'nice places to be', you compare them to the interior of that 75 and just wonder at what point we got things wrong.
Quite.
We too have a 75, it genuinely is one of the most comfortable cars I've ever been in. I have a slightly dodgy back and yet I can do three hour motorway stints in the Rover no problem, whether it be as passenger or in the hot seat.

Combine the comfort with the cavernous practicality of the Tourer, cheap running costs (ok so we have a CDTI, not a V6) and how delightful the cabin is, it has to be one of the best value second hand cars available. If you get stumped by the badge, you're missing out.

Mk1 Focus RS & 205 GTI - instantly crap because both cars have been modified and also have a Morette headlight conversion.

Doesn't matter about any other tuning / modification, from historic posts I've had before, the headlights alone mean both cars are now evidently crap hehe

I always think that if you can get in it, it starts, drives, gets you where you are going safely and comfortably then that is 90 percent of what a car is, the rest is a bonus and that ten percent isnt worth bankrupting yourself for, you can sometimes really enjoy a fairly mundane car that does the job and asks for little and then end up resenting something more fancy because it costs you more than it is really worth to you.

Its a complicated equation with no 100 percent right answer.

As for social Stigma Yipper, some of the stick you get on here seems to be like water off a ducks back, not sure why driving a Meriva or Picasso would trouble you ?

It isnt always good how people perceive you when you have a nice car, I had a guy I used to work with, who had always let on in the past and seemed pleased to see me, swerve me completely when I was driving a Merc ML when they were still new, it was my father in laws, I saw him some months later when I was driving my Metro 1.0 "Clubman" and it was back to normal, "How you doing mate, good to see you" etc, he thought I hadn't clocked him when I was in that Merc, not sure I want something that makes people feel uncomfortable (personality aside...) strange reaction but people do strange stuff whern cornered, shocked or annoyed, if thats what they do for a crappy M Class, what would they do if you had a Lambo or whatever.
