To some extent yes it does, it’s the reason manufacturers chase records.

Most Porsche buyers would like a sexy 911T or GT3 Touring, but those looking for the ultimate in performance go for the GT2RS or GT3RS even if it doesn’t look as sleek. McLaren have done the same with the Senna, everything on it makes it go faster.
The reason manufacturers chase records with ugly cars is to be quickest and thereby become prettier??
RS Porsches have the same body shell as the non RS, they just add holes and wings.
The Senna doesn't share the same body with anything....

Ferrari lightweight road/track cars and Porsche lightweight road/track cars and Lambo too all look directly relevant/similar to lesser models whilst pumping them up and making them 'better', in performance AND looks.
This McLaren lightweight road/track car, has bits of 720S but looks fundamentally worse than it's strictly road biased brethren...

Being faster won't change that, it'll just have the headlines until the next one beats it...

Which is why, if it wants to stay in the headlines, it will completely obliterate the road car record - such that everyone else spends the next two or three years trying to catch up.

indeed, but that has nothing to do with looking good, or looking prettier because it's fast....which was your original point no?
It proves McLaren can build a fast car...which we know already.
It will (subject to them posting a lap time somewhere) hold the record for a time
But it won't take 2-3 years to best it though...

You believe the quickest lap time makes a car more beautiful?

So if a properly ugly woman, with hairy acne, and folds of sweating flesh, managed to cook you THE best meal ever, and then proceeded to provide THE best sex you'd ever experience..... she'd then become a stunner?

..maybe...
... think of it more like having sex with an ugly female athlete, wrong but strangely appealing!
I think ugly athlete is correct... after all, we're talking speed here... a properly ugly woman, with hairy acne, and folds of sweating flesh like a winged up Bentley Conti isn't going to break any records... wink

Quick is just having a giggle now...we all know he hates the Senna's looks and probably can't believe how often he throws his hook in and gets a bite....

The car will of course look exactly the same, but it will indeed be perceived as a more attractive car if it puts down lap records everywhere it goes. The commentators will call it “Brutally functional”.

I’m expecting the mad Mercedes and Aston track cars to give Bellof’s 6’11” around the ‘Ring a serious challenge, but yes it will take a while for a road car on road tyres to match the 6’30” that I think the Senna is capable of. The GT2RS did a 6’47”, which knocked five seconds from the Performante and ten from the 918.

rofl my analogy has nothing to do with performance, and everything to do with the reason for being...
this car is built for speed......that is it's reason.....that does not make it beautiful
women (from a male's pov) are built to mate with..... whether they're fast or athletic has sod all to do with it....

you're confused.
It will be more 'attractive' in terms of - its a record holder and 'better', faster, more valuable.
It won't be more 'attractive' in terms of looks....as you say, it will look the same. After it posts a scorching lap time, those that don't appreciate the way it looks won't suddenly go...ooh..no actually it looks kinda gorgeous now....

People will understand why it looks as it does, some of those who initially dismissed it as subjectively ugly will note that there was a purpose to the design decisions.

McLaren themselves have said that the engineers won the argument over the designers on this project, given that it’s billed as the ultimate road-legal car that’s not really surprising.

If you want a genuinely sexy McLaren buy a 570GT. smile

I do think that insane lap times alters peoples perception of how a car looks, perhaps subconsciously
as mentioned before, the wings on gt3s etc look nice because people associate them with proper race cars
the Senna absolutely has to set some records to counter its design though. (I expect it'll be #1 as a bridge to the new aston etc)

I already understand why it looks the way it does.
I think it's awful
and
I think we'll see a range of cars do similar things with aero that show this up for what it is.
The ultimate road legal car for me has to look like a designer had a role in it's creation.
This isn't the ultimate.
It may well prove to be the quickest... but that will be it's only(short lived) accolade

Show me another truly ugly road car that has become held up as a thing of beauty because an engineer won the argument over what should be done.

(and yes.... I most definitely would buy a 570GT over this)

It will be interesting to see if future race cars start to take aesthetic cues from this car on the basis of its aero...I hope to god not.
Because I can't think of one current race car with road car roots that looks this bad...

The bold bit is the crux. What about if some people, the ultimate for them is something which is just as fast as is possible in the world with the current technical know-how?

Any doubts that the Senna is just an easy way to make money... Are McLaren in that much trouble?
If that was the case, they'd be launching an SUV.
Costs money to develop an SUV. Costs nothing to stick some fancy body work on a tub and turn up the boost. Then costs even less to charge idiots 300k for some trim. It's a simple money grabbing bd technique.

why don't you just disprove that Mclarens sales growth has slowed down then leave it at that
Context is everything. Mclaren had very large growth due to introduction due to the P13s then have gone back to more or less what it was previously with the yoy increases of the 'regular' line of cars. Some clueless prediction of the end of Mclaren due to extrapolating sales numbers is just daft.

I thought we sorted this : you don’t like the way it looks.
Ok, a perfectly reasonable opinion and there are plenty who agree.
But you’re not an engineer and you clearly don’t work in the industry based on some of your more naive comments, so there’s really nothing more of value you can add.
Just saying you hate the way it looks page after page is a bit weird.
Perhaps time you moved on?

No true mate.

A few may have cancelled but that’s normal for any new car with deposits placed without customers seeing it first. Just ask the guys at Aston, Alpine etc.

Publicity machine on overtime?
It’s just standard practice marketing.
If a company launches a new product, they generally like to promote it.
This is especially true of halo products. It raises brand awareness and increases propensity to purchase for the lesser models.
It’s why Audi spend millions advertising the R8 on Tv. Audi only sell 150 odd R8’s in the Uk (they sell 160,000 cars each year in the Uk alone) so spending over £5m+ on Tv commercials wouldn’t be very efficient if it was merely intended to flog 150 R8’s.
The formula is: Audi advertise the R8 on TV and cinema then sell more diesel A3’s.
