I'll be keeping to the standard wheel sizes. If history has taught me anything it's that I know less about car dynamics than the people who do it every day for a profession. It feels plenty hard enough without less sidewall, and it'd just encourage more damage from potholes and speedbumps etc.

Plan is to turn the standard wheels into a winter set for next year with actual winters on them, and get a set of dynamics pro race 1.2 for the summer/track set.

Re Tints. I expect it's because of the very shallow angle of the rear screen. So a tint that's good on a saloon, would be really dark on this. Not my bag anyway.
The standard suspension is quite compromised on the road, my coilovers are softer, and if you're still on the Primacy, they are pretty hard too.

i'd be tempted to go wider for your track setup, you'll get better tyre choices, if you make any meets just ask around.

I had a build thread on here but photobucket nerfed it.

Changing wheel offset has significant effects on handling and steering on most cars because you are changing the scrub radius, this can change the car from a nicely balanced chassis into an animal.

I certainly enjoy the extra stability from the track width, I need to run a less aggressive camber setup next winter though, I don't notice it when it's mild, but -2.5, -2 is too much on greasy winter roads, traction control kicks when exiting roundabouts and during weight transfers.

No need to mail ! I just fitted PFC Z rated pads, RBF600 fluid and Nankang NS2rs tyres.

Providing that the car is a Cup that's pretty much all you need. It will make for a far more interesting trackable daily with a warranty than the bizarre list posted earlier, although it was posted by someone who can't understand that all cars are compromised and that different people make different compromises.
What are you still wittering on about ? It was just a list of cars more interesting than a 208gti at 20k or so. I'll do another list for ya if it helps, all more fun on track or road.
For your information I don't need a shopping hatch, only a weekend fun toy.
Now just concentrate on selling people on the 208 gti like a good boy, time to move on rather than whinging.

A more relevant list would have been what new cars that you consider more interesting that you could buy for similar money to these two protagonists?

I don't want to play this game ta. Obviously some people's idea of interesting is way different to mine. As you were.

You're probably still judging me by your own standards. I am glad that you are now recognising that the word "interesting" is subjective and that different people like different things without the need to make childish judgments of value. We got there in the end so there is hope.

I have no particular views on the 208 but considering your lack of critical thinking and obvious anger/frustration/intolerance, I don't really value your input about it - it might be a good car, particularly at £16k.

I'm glad this thread has turned into the usual stupid slanging match about who has the biggest willy, I really hated the actual discussion about suspension and the suitability of the GT86 on track. rolleyes

yep, PH.

I love the 86 for the simple fun it offers on the road for a semi-practical car. Not much betters it imo. I was surprised how good it was on track too though, as at around 1250kgs it's too lardy for my tastes in track cars. With some nasp tuning it would make a fun car for those that value handling over being fastest on the straights. You'd probably learn more as a driver than most others too. I don't think FI comes cheap with this engine though as increasing the power brings a lot of other problems. Solvable, but challenging nonetheless. I'm actually thinking of moving to an 86 track car when my charged 5 expires, not least because my aged body would appreciate the comfort to & from track. At this point I don't think I'll FI it as that route just ends up costing more money, pain and trouble than the rewards achieved. If I were rich, well... My belief now is to run a reliable, sorted track car myself and complement it with fast hire cars occasionally.

I've been thinking about getting one to replace my MR2 turbo, which is now more than a bit modified. I'm just thinking to myself maybe I don't need something this fast and tricky on the limit to enjoy on track.

The GT86 weighs about the same, I'd probably miss the old school turbo delivery but honestly I feel like the MR2 is a bit of a blunt instrument and I'd learn more driving the GT86 on track. Plus the fact you can fit a set of wheels in the back of the 86.

I have a couple of Mkiv Supra turbo's and am thinking similarly (it obviously helps that I can still keep one!) especially as I can almost straight swap finance wise, as the mkiv prices are rising up to meet the descending GT86 prices...

Apologies for derailing it a tad. I posted a list of alternatives in the same budget that were more exciting and vfm in my opinion. It was left at that but someone has a bee in bonnet about my opinion on the 208 gti and can't leave it alone.
The GT86 is at least rwd and a semblance of a sports car. Adrian at Fensport has done remarkable things with them ( been round Blyton in one) and tbh they are proper tools (if somewhat expensive) when played with.

Well a few weeks ago I spent £14k on a 2013 GT86. (Plan to replace 2 cars with 1)

I have a few downsides.
1 Fear of sudden engine death from reading the internet (has a totally stock car on road tyres ever destroyed its engine on track?)
2 Rear visibility isn't great and the original buyer ticked all boxes except reversing sensors.
3 Odd "horizontal" lump in the seat just where my bum go's if I slouch a tiny bit. No idea why I didn't notice it on the test drive. But changing the way I sit seems to solve it.
4 The partners son is not an above knee amputee and as such is unable to go in the rear for more than a few miles without significant complaining.

Then I jumped back in the MK3 MX5 (now for sale, cheapest one on PH...roll up roll up get your MX5 here etc), and I'm happy I made the right choice.

I wouldn't even consider a FWD Peugeot as an alternative to the 86. Unless I wanted to get someone in the back....
Reversing sensors are dealer fit so you could get them added. Alternatively - in other markets they fit reversing cameras and I've seen stuff on the GT86 forum that this could be a fairly easy solution (cheaper too!).
