All that money and they can't afford a barber! In that pic, the red looks a bit less in-yer-face and subtler, almost a mulberry sort of colour.
The car itself doesn't suit big rims at all. It's funny how older cars like this only seem to look good on 15s or 16s at most.
The bumpers neaten up the S3 items at the top but look ungainly and heavy at the bottom. Why did they have to be integrated instead of sitting over the body? They look as jarring as those a big bumper Mk2 golf, or a facelift alumnimum X350.
The interior is OK, but why the old 3 speed?

One of the most iconic and beautiful cars of the 80's. Okay, the basic design was 70's, but that iteration is the pinnacle.
'70s? The Mark X started in 1961 and the base design was already there.I had a 420G for a while mid seventies, then a series 3 XJ12 for a while about 20 years ago, and have to confess the series 3 has always been my favourite (shape) Jaguar saloon... Resto mod for me would have to be an XJC, preferably with a supercharged XJR lump under the bonnet

Late 6.0 v12 with upgraded breathing, exhaust, ECU and other bits on mine putting out 380bhp through an upgraded 4 speed auto. Looking forward to it being back on the road this year. ECU will be switchable between economy, normal and sports mode. Sebastian Tombs said:

The easiest update is to the later 4 speed box achieveable through the use of an adaptor plate and a GM700R4 gearbox from the likes of a Camaro. That’s what I’m doing with mine and it settles the cruise at 80 on the 6.0 v12 to about 2100rpm so smooth and should be over 20mpgcraigjm said:

I really, really like the body shape, it was a sublime design on jaguars part.
The series 3 XJ was not an in house Jaguar design. Pininfarina was given the job of doing a cheap update to the series 2 so that it would remain current looking because of the delays to the XJ40 programme which should have actually replaced the series 2. People seem to love the Series 3 update, but I far prefer the Series 2 for its much more attractive roofline. The series 2 is positively sleek, but to my eyes the roof treatment of the Series 3 is too tall and a little frumpy in comparison, so I would have used a Series 2 as my starting point. The chrome and rubber bumpers (very like those developed for the XJ40) also rob the series 3 of some of its gracefulness. They have the same effect on the XJ40 - these look very delicate without the bumpers. The rubber bumpers also rob both the Series 3 and XJ40 of the visual impact of the tapering rear wings, so beautiful on the Series 2. These bumpers are an improvement on that.
Personally, I am not keen on these retro-mod Jags, but it is well done and they are widely admired. I'm sure it is very dramatic in the flesh.

I agree much prefer my coupe although it has series 3 rear lights, boot lid and plinth which I think was a good update. Retains chrome bumpers though albeit in my case welded to be single units to remove the over riders. My series 2 coupe also has a series 3 dashboard which I think is nicer without the pencil shelf.dbdb said:

They can be a bit of an aquired taste. The retro power one is too American for my liking (I’m style and engine) and this one just doesn’t look different enough to justify the money spent on it. Mine should be ready late summer and my vision was to create a vision of what an XJR XJ coupe might have been like with as much modern tech as possible done well. craigjm said:
The latest engine that will fit in the bodyshell is the mid 90s supercharged 6. Anything past that doesnt fit because it is too tall and the transmissions are much bigger being 6 or 8 speed and they just wouldnt fit in the tunnel even with extensive modifications.
Thats not quite right... the supercharged V8 fits.I had a good look at this yesterday and, despite initial misgivings, thought it looked rather fabulous in the flesh. Colour, interior and even the wheels really did look dramatic but it all worked in a lovely flamboyant way.
What it did show, set against modern metal, was how beautifully proportioned and relatively small the XJ is.
Met the man himself and he seemed (rightfully) delighted with his car too.

Red leather seats arw lovely the door cards and dash surrounds also being red perhaps is a tad roo much. Make those a much darker colour keep red leather....spot on.
I always liked Listen with Nicko on the albums, he seems like a good guy tbh.
