I'm a bit confused with this GT Series. Where exactly does it sit in the range?
Looked it up some more, basically it's the AMG version of the CLS which they rebranded GT. And as a GT, it will cost more. Good for those that want to pay, will be quite a piece of equipment whatever it is called. Not my cup... If I had to have a Merc, I would be more interested in that new straight six in the E estate with the optional drift mode, that sounds more like reasonable fun...

I actually quite like the looks of it, but with the introduction and re-introduction of so many different models now, i think these niche examples don't quite sit as well as they should in the range.

Why can't car makers just fk off? The myriad of niche-within-niche models and the resulting homogeneity is baffling.
"We are giving customers what they want." No you're not, what you're doing is creating a continual, incessant demand for new cars....
Oh... As you were.
Considering MB are selling more cars than they have ever done before, they are "giving customers what they want""We are giving customers what they want." No you're not, what you're doing is creating a continual, incessant demand for new cars....

Bit of a liberty by Mercedes slotting this in with the AMG GT when in fact its nothing more than a rebodied E Class and shares none of its platform with the AMG GT.
So it looks like we have:
E Class - saloon, estate, coupe and convertible
CLS - E class based four door coupe
AMG GT four-door - E class based five door hatch but aligned with AMG GT so that price can be maximised
So it looks like we have:
E Class - saloon, estate, coupe and convertible
CLS - E class based four door coupe
AMG GT four-door - E class based five door hatch but aligned with AMG GT so that price can be maximised

Is that a fact though, I can’t seem to find it anywhere but I read on a guy who calls himself ‘Mr AMG’ on instagram, has a YouTube channel called RemoveBeforeRace and he claimed that the AMG GT has a different platform to the E class and is created by AMG only. So it looks like we have:
E Class - saloon, estate, coupe and convertible
CLS - E class based four door coupe
AMG GT four-door - E class based five door hatch but aligned with AMG GT so that price can be maximised
I can’t believe that it is rebodied E-Class because Mercedes couldn’t be that stupid to do that, a niche within a niche for something that is identical under the skin as the other variants.
I love Mercs but their range is just becoming silly imo and the AMG badge has been diluted so much. I remember, if a car had an AMG badge on the back, it meant it was something special with a big thumping V8 in the front (Bar C32 & C36/E36). Now you can get C43 AMG’s with engines that are badged C400 in the states.

What looks more absurd?
Sorry for lengthy post but I feel strongly about this subject.

That is vile.
They'll sell heaps of 'em.
It's not vile! A 640bhp AMG saloon is to be celebrated regardless, and rather than being vile, I think if it has a weakness (big IF), it's that it is a little too 'generic Mercedes'. The AMG GT looks like a retro roaster....long bonnet etc....this just looks, well, like a Merc. If you saw this with '350CDI' on the boot, it wouldn't look out of place. They'll sell heaps of 'em.
For a competitor to, I guess, the AM Rapide (or incoming Lagonda)/Ferrari GTC4Lusso/Lamborghini Estoque/etc, it just misses wow factor.
Did someone say upturned bath?!
