RE: Rimac C_Two: Geneva 2018

Hmm, when batteries morph into the next big thing (whatever that is; super capacitors?), it'll have just as much performance, but significantly less weight. These things are already primed for a quantum leap, despite having enough to comprehensively blow the doors off supposed sports cars already.
ICE is a dinosaur. Deader than disco.

Rimac recently had 30 million USD investment from a chinese company that makes batteries.

So, the cost of a bumper redesign for a quality-led mainstream manufacturer then?
Yes, but they desing and produce all by themselfs, they have 2 autoclaves ( " oven" for carbon fibre products ) for making all the components from the smallest to the carbon tub chassis. That is their strenght - possibility of small scale production of highly technological components.Königsegg manufacture lots of their own parts, because the large suppliers won't get out of bed for the money they want to pay. I expect they produce some very good components for a fraction of the price. It's not that difficult, believe it or not.

Aye. Not sure what batteries they are using in this but lithium Sulphur based batteries will triple energy density and that's without fancy super capacitors. Those are almost production ready and cheap enough to use on high end vehicles. ICE is a dinosaur. Deader than disco.
I'd highly recommend watching Salomondrin experience of the Rimac Concept 1. (He races his 918 against the concept 1 in later parts of the episode).

The concept one is a serious serious bit of kit, hugely undersold by the Grand Tour imo. I can only imagine how ballistic this new C_Two must feel.

Kinda like a rendering of a Mclaren 12C done from memory by someone who has seen one drive past. Instantly forgettable and without any discernible style of its own. The tech may be interesting (or unfinished and flammable - who can say) but it's achingly dull to look at.
Do you speak like this in person? Oh its achingly dull to look at dear dont you know......Macboy said:
As another poster said, (I'm paraphrasing) you'd have to be mad to give them money for one of these. Certifiably insane IMO.
The sort of person that will buy this the ~£1.7m is pocket money to them and they will already own at least one garage full of super and hyper cars, they won't miss the cash.As a tech showcase for what Rimac can do this is right out there, it should net them a lot more business with the established car manufacturers. I would love to see what Lotus, Radical or even Morgan could do with Rimac components.
The key difference between ICE tech and EV tech is that getting more power from EV stuff is actually relatively easy. Getting more power from ICE is difficult hence why we all go oooh, ahhh when we hear BHP figures; it really doesn't translate to EV. Small axial flux electric motors are readily available and over 300kW (400 BHP) per motor is not unusual. Motors from the likes of EMRAX can be mounted at each wheel so 1200kW/ 1600BHP could be bought off the shelf tomorrow. Hook them to Sevcon drives and off the shelf battery packs and you're good to go.
The batteries are where the clever stuff is, not the kW/ BHP.

It looks fantastic, so much better than the ugly messes McLaren have come away with recently. The figures are simply astonishing and even if acceleration isn't your thing you can't deny that it is ridiculously fast.
It's heavy yes, and it isn't going to corner as well as a McLaren or a Ferrari, but it is lighter than a Chiron.

Yeah. The motors are completely limited by the batteries. We've got an Emrax motor at Uni for a Formula Student car... it weighs 12kg and gives us potentially 134hp. We should smoke our ICE team on the acceleration test, and they've got history of being quite good at the acceleration test... just got to get the poxy thing built! The batteries are where the clever stuff is, not the kW/ BHP.

Doesn't interest at all. It's just "strap on batteries" engineering, it's not anything revolutionary or intelligent. I suppose it's a bit "early muscle car" in its conception... And sure, it'll be disturbingly quick, but does anyone really care?
I'm very much looking forward to the electric cars I'll own in the future (because god knows I'm bored senseless with the downsizing of engines going on just now) but this doesn't seem like....anything.
