Absolutely ridiculous. Also read about the stickers....so if you have a sticker it invalidates your warranty....and if you remove said sticker it's still not valid? You couldn't make it up!

Ombudsman and the press as well!!! I trust they're happy to refund you the entire policy value, then? Not! Following this with interest.

When you get the wheels refurbed and refitted, they'll look just like OEM, right?

Your call what you tell the insurer.

To reply to some posts,

Yes, I think the snitch gets a cutback for each car he snitches on...cant fathom why he would have made such a fuss otherwise !

We have cancelled the policy with immediate effect tonight, they told us we had 7 days to cancel it or they would cancel it. If we did it before the 7 days it wouldn't go on the system, if we didn't they would cancel the policy and it would show up screwing us for years.

Replacement wheels being sourced as we speak and a new policy coming into effect on Thursday.

Broker is vegetable that rhymes with Parrot, underwriter is largest city in Switzerland and will be last in the phone book

They did not refund entire policy either, we had to pay £35 admin fee for setting up the policy, £35 admin fee for cancelling the policy and then a further £67 for time on risk over 10 days. The policy was setup on direct debit with a deposit paid so will be be refunded some of the deposit less the above costs.

This and more.

It is disgraceful to the point of being beyond human comprehension, and more to the point sounds like they would get a massive bking if the OP went to the Ombudsman.

We refurbish numerous sets of wheels every week at my business, and changed probably over 100 sets of Land Rover wheels to black from silver as that has been the fashion for the last couple of years.

I do not believe for one second that any of our customers have invalidated their insurance.

Utter bullst.

It sounds like the insurance company are simply trying to get out of insuring someone for whatever reason.

Why don't they just be honest and say "We don't want to insure anyone under 25. End of discussion", because that's what they actually mean these days.

Wow, I cant believe so many people feel the same way as me ! Being PH I fully expected to be told its all my fault for trying to con the insurance company and of course painted wheels are modifications, calling custard and wanting proof blah blah blah. For once PH seems to be about car enthusiasts annoyed at being conned

cool

This does not invalidate insurance. If they purport to do so, then they repudiate the contract.

Some people are morons.

That's even worse than when a friend of mine stayed at his girlfriends house for the evening and his car was stolen. They said they wouldn't pay out as the car was not parked at his home address.

It also reminds me of a situation at work the other day. I work at a car dealership and was struggling to get * rated tyres in the correct size for a BMW (* indicates the tyres are type approved especially for BMW fitment. Most premium car manufacturers do this now). The tyre supplier stated that if we fitted exactly the same tyres without the * rating then that would count as a modification and the insurer would have to be informed. We told the customer who thought this was bks but he decided to check anyway (as he thought we were taking the mickey) and his insurers agreed that it was a modification so he had to go without his car for a few days while we waited for the tyres to come in from the manufacturer.

Where will this stop though? I wonder what my insurance company would say if I got my car serviced and used aftermarket parts? Should I inform them of the change in oil filter brands? What about if the main dealer uses Castrol oil and the manufacturer recommends Shell? Would an air freshener constitute a modification? I might ring my insurers tonight and see what they say.

This is complete and utter bks. Fully agree with those saying to take multiple steps to getting them the negative publicity they deserve.

The cynic in me thinks that matey who'd come to fit the black box has worked out he gets a better ratio of pay to actual work done by doing this whenever possible.

A law unto themselves.
Insurance and it's associated bullst really winds me up. They seem to be able to do/ charge whatever they want with no comeback/ common sense or liability.
I feel for you OP rolleyes

OK. That's clearer. Is this a decision by Rhymes with Parrot or Zurich? I'm inclined to think it's a mentalist manager at Rhymes with Parrot that has thrown his toys out of the pram rather than the underwriting insurer. Go after both with the FOS.

I see that TrakGlobalGroup are the owners of Rhymes with Parrot - very incestuous.

Paint protection isn’t a modification
Tyres aren’t modifications
A claim can not be declined for the car being away from home, unless it really stays there all the time.

None of the above would stand up to slightest challenge.

Wheels possibly are a modification, some wouldn’t care, some will.

Daft as I find it I can sort of get how painted wheels could be viewed as a modification.

What I'm struggling with is how the fk saying you'll get them refurbished back to standard is still a modification? confused

Decision has come from Zurich according to the Carrot. They sent them the photos that matey boy took when he turned up to fit black box and Zurich declined the policy or allowing to rectify the issue

And that's the arguments we been having all day. I can kind of see the painted wheels being an issue,,,but not taking them back to standard.
