back to the OP's original post and the subsequent cancellation of the girls policy, I assume when asked in future "Have you had insurance cancelled aor refused previously?" she is now obliged to reply "Yes" and I can only hope, when explaining why to a decent insurer, they too agree that the whole situation is utterly ridiculous.
The ONLY good thing to come from this is they told us we either had to cancel the policy or they would. If we cancelled we wouldn’t have to declare anything in future, if we didn’t cancel it they would cancel it and we would then be on record for having a policy cancelled. They at least gave us that opportunity

I don't think (unless I've missed it) that we've seen anyone actually have a policy cancelled over a refurbed damaged wheel or having a wing repainted to original colour, it's just been this ding dong 'what if' conversation between the OP & insurer.

What we do have is a non modified declaration & a vehicle with 4 painted (not refurbed) wheels that has therefore been modified.
I will repeat myself one last time.

They categorically told me a professionally refurbished standard wheel is considered a modification and something worthy of cancelling the policy. They deem refurbished wheels as a modification... I have this in writing from them.

This statement is just ridiculous.

There is no point, Vonhosen has his view (which is fair enough) and will bang the drum long and hard enough until the other 99% on this thread give in or agree with him laugh

You seemed to have missed the several occasions where I have mentioned the underwriters specifically told me they do NOT accept refurbished wheels on the policy, not my refurbished back to standard wheels but refurbished wheels in general and THAT is the basis for cancelling the policy, Not because we 'lied' or were a bigger risk or any other daft reason you keep coming up with. According to their definition ANY wheel that has been refurbished is considered a modification and as such wont be covered under their policy.

Well today was D day and the black box fitter came round to do his thing. She is now insured with a different broker and different underwriter.... and the same little wker turned up ! The wife doesn’t see wrong in anyone and yet the first thing she did was phone me to say what a little snidy creepy little tt he was , says enough to me.

Anyways the lass is all sorted and insured with no hassle and should be trouble free for the next 12 months. Unfortunately I have just lost my father so battling with the last lot of muppets over £70 has just taken a huge tumble down my priority list. If or when I get the inclination I will persue my options out of pure spite more than anything else.

For now though, it’s case closed on my end.

Thanks

Thanks guys,

Yeah suddenly some painted wheels seem rather insignificant!

I decided to have a peek at the cctv and see what the turd was up to when doing the car, seems he was still hell bent on finding an issue again given how many times he walked round and round the car before relenting and getting his fisher price tool kit out his car. Took photos of her car from every possible angle too . Strange bearing in mind he works for an independent company who contracts to several ins co’s so shouldn’t really have a vested interest in getting policies cancelled .

Anyways all is done and we can concentrate on the more important matters now.

Most black box companies are nothing like that. All three of our kids had black boxes for 2-3 years each and with varying companies. Not one of them had any issues at all. My daughters at Uni at the moment so I disconnect her battery while her car stands for 2 months at a time. Not once have they emailed her to query it. If she persistently flouts with the speed limits all she gets is a polite email stating she needs to ease off.

It predominantly seems to be a certain orange company that runs totally underhanded tactics on young clueless new drivers

When our daughter passed her test and got her 1st car we went online to get insurance quotes and found that black box policies were no cheaper and in some instances more expensive than a standard policy,

I really can't see why having one fitted would be any kind of benefit.
In all of our cases it massively reduced their first years premiums with all of them driving 1.4L engines or larger, the most expensive was £1200 fully comp SD&C. Second year with the box dropped them down to late £600’s and again unless they were being utter utter goons... not a peep from the ins co’s ever. Didn’t matter how late they drove, if they cornered or braked harshly or even did the odd 10mph over the limit.

The Only time they got a moderately tough email was when my lad was playing silly buggers one night after another friend bought a 2.0 Megane and boys did the usual penis measuring lark.

I personally as an adult wouldn’t want one , but for new drivers in 4/4 cases for us... they were a no brainer and it was if they weren’t even fitted with one.
