RE: Shed of the Week: Honda Accord Type R
Discussion
Hi guys, Thanks for the feature! This is my accord type r and to clear the rust issue up the car was in the garage for 3 months after i had purchased it after failing the MOT, was my mistake as it was my ignorance not checking before buying the car, whilst its by no means rust free the major areas where these cars suffer have been rectified at my expense!

I suppose we're all different, but I see a long repair as a good thing rather than a bad one.
Why would you pay big money for a major rust repair and then sell it on shortly after?Willf852 said:

Interesting to get owners opinion! A bargain at £1,500, but not for me. I had one of these for a weekend in 2000 when Honda were throwing fleet demos at our company, and once the novelty of the top end rush had worn off, the power delivery actually got on my nerves, exacerbated by too much spacing between the gear ratios. Compared with the 306 XSi I was driving at the time, I didn't think the handling was anything special either. It did sound truly spectacular at the top end, though.
I can appreciate the engineering, and that my criticisms are nothing more than personal taste, but this one is not for me.

The other problem with these sorts of engines is you tend to not drive them as hard as you need to in order to enjoy them fully, as you get horrendous fuel economy driving in third at 7000rpm everywhere!I can appreciate the engineering, and that my criticisms are nothing more than personal taste, but this one is not for me.

"Nigel Mansell was sort of in the Mondeo."
I now need to know why!
He was sort of in the wall at Donington a few years previously too. I now need to know why!
Top shedding, love ATRs. My pal had one on slightly higher mileage than this and it was still bloody fast. Used a fair bit of oil and stank of the stuff, but was a riot to drive.

Why would you pay big money for a major rust repair and then sell it on shortly after?Damnit shed! I've been keeping my eye on prices of these (and Vti Preludes) as the next budget fun second car. Now everyone knows what a bargain they are I'll be SOL finding one...
Seriously though, I've always had a massive soft spot for these and I am looking at grabbing one at some point. For the price, it's hard to argue against them that much. Unfortunately, most of the ones I've seen coming up for sale recently have been in pretty poor condition on the whole, so it's nice to see a decent enough one for sale, just as I can't afford it

If anyone is ever tempted and has the opportunity, buy one. They are fantastic cars. I had one ten years ago, it's without doubt the car I would love to drive again.
The 2.2 VTEC is so aggressive compared to the EP3 civic I had which was out at around the same time.
K&N typhoon, decat, stainless steel exhaust and rota wheels added to the experience. The LSD really works too, great fun all around.

Didn't your other mate in a very cheap Primera GT manage to keep up with him on track day though? I can't remember which one but it was a cracking video that, i must say!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
