Does lack of decent cheap cars thanks to covid inflation = lack of posts?

I went for a walk at lunch and saw this for sale.

£795. Not checked the MOT and you can see it has a dent on the front corner, but would likely make a cheap runner.

ETA - MOT check says er, maybe not - reg. SK59HDA - depends if all this has been sorted properly and not hidden or bodged.

Looks good if it has 6 months' MOT and nothing notably wrong with it.

Am thinking something like a Berlingo would be perfect for a seaside / New Forest snotter.
Is there any significant difference between the Peugeot / Citroen versions?
Pug tends to be better spec in my experience. We had one hen the kids were small - sliding doors great with todlers - all the pugs had aircon, citroens didnt.

Ah, crap. Not ideal. MOT is way too short for my liking. Doubt anyone will buy it if they check the MOT. Unless you can negotiate a fresh MOT...

Guess it depends on the individual. Some might just scrap it if they're broke and can't afford to get anything fixed, others might pay up and get anything fixed, others still might sell it for £300 because they need the money desperately.

It’s easy enough to look at what state the rear axle is in, nothing else on those MOTs is a worry really is it?

This used to be a really good read, however with the way car prices/inflation are going...nothing of any interest seems to crop up for less than a grand these days. Would it be wrong to ask for the budget to be upped to £2k?

there are still a lot of cars for under a bag of the small grainy stuff..... it just takes more time......
I purchased two months ago a 1998 Xedos 9 with backed by service & MOT history 78K miles on the clock, not a trace of rust or corrosion. a shade under £700

A few years ago I use to walk to work and a Xedos 9 use to drive past. I always admired it (not sure whether it had a bit of extra spoiler/side skirt stuff ) but it looked very smart. I could see it had full leather and always thought it must have been an incredibly comfortable car to cruise around in.

some of them ( like the one I purchased) were factory lowered and wheels changed from staggered to 17's all round. Loveley to drive, but certainly not a performance saloon unless one puts the boot down. First gear auto is quite long so getting it to shift down from a standing start takes a bit of a while... currently getting just under 19mpg around town, 26 on a longer run of mixed roads, got nigh on 30 on a long motorway run...

I’ve been looking and prices are so inflated atm. Do you think we should temporarily up the thread budget to say £1,500? Just until prices settle again?

Re inflation, I'm being quoted by one of the online "we buy any scrap cars" a price for my old Peugeot Partner almost as high as I bought it for on eBay in 2019 - it did me a whole year and 15k miles of motoring before I parked it up in favour of something else!
