I’ve managed to find myself a new shed. £1200 Kia Cee’d SW with 4 recent winter tyres and a years MOT. It’s not pretty or fun to drive but has a good history.

Interested to hear more about this - they’ve not been in shed territory for long and would love to know how they’re holding up

Facebook market place is a dangerous place to hang around wink

there's a mr2 with almost a years mot for £800 nearby , hasn't had a mot since 2012 then this year supposedly had a new engine put in and has been mot'd .

Please don't tell anyone but I'm running a 1.6crdi SW. It's been very reliable so far and always returns at least 50mpg.

Being a pre-2010 car there's no DPF to worry about. No DMF either. Apparently a very reliable engine.

Irritations include rust on the top of the doors and the subframe and rattling interior trim.

Drives ok. Feels like they benchmarked the Golf for dynamics and the Focus for interior quality. If only they'd done it the other way round...

This makes me happy as they are the three main flaws with mine.

One of the draws for me is that the motor is chain driven so there was no need to spend £00s insuring against a missed change by a previous owner.

Yup and I’m now looking again as my Aero has quite comprehensively been certified a pup at the mot station so I’m looking again.

I fancy a winter hack of the 4x4 variety so it’s either some bargain ste or a few grand for a nicer (i.e. toys) Lexus RX
Ah no, what was wrong with it?

Mine went to the tip today.

Permanently or for a return trip?

You might be about to pick up a bargain RX300 (not quite for this thread but maybe £1500). I have one and love it especially in the snow. There are a few videos on YT with Russians fking about in the snow, going sideways, bouncing around etc all in RX300s. No idea why they have chosen that vehicle.

Slight change of plan. I came across an externally battered but mechanically sound V6 Mondeo with full mains dealer service history on 128,000 miles via another forum for a ridiculous £500 with mot until July.

Heated seats, slushbox and fast clear windscreen will suffice for winter I think.

Needs a new wheel bearing but I can spanner that and gearbox wouldn’t mind a fluid change but happy with it so far.

Also surprisingly quick off the line as it doesn’t have the pickup lag the Aero has. Also a very nice V6 him to it.

I had a moment on the A12 earlier tonight which confirmed my status as a true captain of bangernomics.

Half heartedly listening to classic FM when an errant flute made a short but very high pitched noise, very similar to a noise that ive heard in the past which was the precursor to a lot of hassle and financial loss. I shat my pants immediately and started scouring the dashboard to see what fault had just flashed up and started to consider how much it was going to cost me.

Very relieved for the ad break which followed soon thereafter.

My £1250 '05 Mini Cooper is still going strong.

Great value, especially when compared to this '68 plate wink

Ah yes, the old ‘turn the radio off to find the expensive noise...only to realise it was the radio’ routine.

Goes with the territory at this end of the market biggrin

I’m currently turning the radio up to drown out the wheel bearing...

I’m looking for an economical daily driver to do 65 miles per day up to 6 days a week, you know the sort, one careful old man owner from new who washes it every Saturday and maintains it meticulously.... these seem thin on the ground these days!

Couple of years ago I had a nice 1.9TDi Octavia with FSH etc which I paid £1200 for. Something like this would do, but I can’t find anything like it for bargain money.

If anyone’s selling their shed then do drop me a PM smile

my 407 was immaculate, service history and looked after, just wheel bearing gone, but 450 quid can't grumble, decent cars.

There's also the "strange burning smell - is it mine or someone else's car" game.

It is. A lovely pre dpf 1.6 with enough power to overtake parked cars and slow moving lorries.

But it does the job I need it to do and the equivalent amount of money would have got me a much leggier and less well looked after thing from a more premium or mainstream brand.

Octavia finally through its MOT, bit of a palava.
Cancelled on Tuesday as I was 10 mins late. failed on Thursday due to headlight being unsecured and having bad aim then they refused to retest unless I booked an hour slot, to check headlight aim!

Headlight unsecured because of a small bump the prev owner had. I forgot about it.

Ofcourse this is shedding, so why the hell would I pay to fix it? bandit

So, mot has cost me £15 all in(free mot from Halfords, £15 retest), now for another year of comfortable, economical cruising!
