The back end looks a bit saggy?
What does it drove like apart from the hesitation?
And what car have you replaced it with?
Think it’s the pics. It drives fine apart from the hesitation, I’ve done just over 500 miles in it since I got it. The back end looks a bit saggy?

Replaced it with an 08 9-3 Aero Sportswagon, it’s off being serviced at the moment and will be in storage until I offload the 530i.

Pro tip - don’t take a £40 deposit. Someone only able to leave a £40 deposit is a feckless, penniless idiot as you’ve found.
£40 deposit on a £875 car seemed reasonable to me. I’ve left £500 deposits on £20k cars before. Toaster Pilot said:

Probably because they go round handing over £40 to people random strangers every week...Speaking of which, I’ve just coughed up £500 for an old Ford Galaxy with 12 months ticket to avoid paying out £150 every week for a skip as building work resumes on the house.
It’s a relatively minty example so I’ll be tarring it up and keeping it saleable post tip rummage, etc.
Get it next week

MOT history makes for appaling reading - looks as though it's been clocked, judging by the failures at relatively low mileages!
Really? As far as I know it’s kosher, HPI check came back clear etc. stewjohnst said:

Bargain. Pity Leeds Council have started charging for certain items at the tip like bags of rubble etc as I’ve done something similar before with old hatchbacks. Really? As far as I know it’s kosher, HPI check came back clear etc. Now I've owned a few E39s, and the list below seems to be an awful lot of failed items for the mileages concerned.
@51k for example:
Advisory notice item(s)
Nearside Rear Anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)
Offside Rear Front suspension has slight play in a lower suspension ball joint (2.5.B.1a)
And then @82k
Reason(s) for failure
Nearside rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.6a)
Offside rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.6a)
Parking brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.7)
Advisory notice item(s)
Offside Front Lower Suspension arm has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)
Offside Rear Anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)
Child seat fitted not allowing full inspection of adult belt
slight wear in nearsde and offside front lower suspension arm bushes
front brake pads getting worn
rear exhaust heatshield insecure
slight oil leak
@94k
Reason(s) for failure
Offside Front Lower Suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)
Offside Front Shock absorber has a serious fluid leak (2.7.3)
Offside Rear Anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)
@106k
Reason(s) for failure
Nearside Front Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Front Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Nearside Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)
Offside Rear Lower Suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush (2.4.G.2)

I never take a deposit when selling a car, if the buyer wants it, come back with all the money.Toaster Pilot said:

We've had our i30 (2008) with the same engine for 3 years now
Bought on 60,000 miles for £3400 which was cheap at the time most others were over £4.5k at the time
Guy selling it had emigrated to Oz and it was sat on his fathers drive getting in the way, so I put a cheeky offer in and walked away when it was rejected. Got an email 3 days later saying "Do you still want it? " at the price I offered.
Things which have gone wrong:
- Slide pins in the calipers stick, making the brakes very spongy and low pedal (as the pins are not returning). Just popped them out, cleaned them up and replaced the pads as they were worn more on one side than the other (the nearside pins were stuck, the offside were fine so the pads had uneven wear) set of pads £20, took about an hour and half to do the job myself
- Outside air temp on the stereo displays -40 degrees, think this was because it had a parrot hands free kit and I removed all of it, disturbing something in the process. Can't be bothered to look into it any more as it doesnt affect the car running!
- Tyres. Factory toe in/out was incorrect and causes inside edges to wear. Toed it out a little more and now get even tyre wear
Aside from that nothing has gone wrong! (Touch wood)
Bought it as Mrs, Haddock commutes in to Cambridge every day which involves sitting in traffic and over 15k miles per annum.
Returns 49mpg even though most of the journey is slow stop start traffic
Engines seem very reliable, as mentioned they are chain driven so no cambelt to worry about
Guy at work has 4 C'eeds that he uses as taxis. All are newer than mine (12 plates) and all have over 200,000 on the clock. Still run great with only routine servicing. I think 1 of them has needed a new clutch but that is about it.
Great cars for the money, if a little dull....!
Brightened ours up a little by installing a DAB kit that works through the steering wheel controls, wasn't cheap (about £120) but its all hidden away so you don't have any "extra" bits cluttering things up.
On 105,000 miles now and we'll be keeping it for a good while longer too.
Bloody jinxed it didn't I.......Bought on 60,000 miles for £3400 which was cheap at the time most others were over £4.5k at the time

That's a nice picture of a coolant tank full of oil....
Hopefully it is the oil cooler that has gone, garage looking at it now. Otherwise it'll be the headgasket.....

I hope it does you well but I confess that I'm not sure I've got the balls. Will be really interested to hear how you get in with it.
