The one we've got has only done 14k. I'd rather have it mapped for a few hundred quid than spend another £8-10k for the emperors new clothes.

A few hundred? Sounds like a st plug-in map to me, Superchips lad. Keep kidding yourself that you have something better than the new model, just because you won't or can't come up with the cash to pay the difference.

An exhaust, intercooler, ITG and remap sees 240bhp and you could grab the parts off the likes of facebook/ebay for £500 and a remap for £300 or so.

Understandably people do not like the new one. Shock horror people have different opinions.
It'll still sell or be leased to thousands of others in the coming year or two.

Warranty and more modern looking would appeal to me if I was in the market for a small hatch. I sold my mk7 Fiesta ST a few months ago as the ride was a little crashy. Loved the power and handling of it but if this new one can improve on them two points whilst looking more modern as the new Fiesta ST line does over an older shape Fiesta, people will love it when they start arriving.

The rear doesn’t even look like the same car. What were they thinking!

I’m confused as to why everyone here is saying the mk8 has more power? On fords website it states 200ps which is the same as the mk7

You can get a CP2 map from Collins for about £350 if your a club member and they know their st, definitely no Superchips!

I don't really understand the dislike for the new mk8 and I'm a 17 plate mk7 owner chasing power! I'd have the new one in a heartbeat, its lighter, stiffer, grippier and in standard form more powerful! No-one can argue with those facts and if your put off owning a car because you think the rear lights are too horizontal you're obviously a bit of a tart, its a quick model of a Fiesta FFS, who gives a toss about the rear lights when your giggling your tits off in the corners!

Also, i'm really looking forward to hearing these fettled up a bit. A 3-pot turbo with a 2.75" exhaust should sound awesome!

I've never seen the Mk7 quoted as anything other than 182PS, plus overboost, which lasts for 15 seconds, and is torque limited in 1st and 2nd.

The new car is 0.2s quicker to 60.
The ST200 had 200 and 215 on overboost and also reduced the 0-60 by 0.2 seconds and had softer springs.

I read the first ride test and the new one has an impressive spec, albeit the one on offer had the LSD so I went to see whether, if I was in the market, would I want to own this car. On dynamic ability, I thought yes, I could quite like this car. Clicked back out to what it looked like and my heart sank again and no, I couldn't.

I think many ST owners will hang on to what they've got as the last one was pretty ideal for everyday life. That said, the lease brigade won't really care.

Overboost is in 3rd 4th, 5th and 6th only and yes, only lasts 15 seconds at full throttle until you either change gear or come off throttle. 15 seconds doesn't sound a lot but when going through the gears it is, it takes less than 15 seconds to hit the rev limit in third by which time your into 4th and given another 15 seconds and so on...

I think all can agree on that. The mk7 is a 200ps car by any reasonable definition.

Well when it is, it is, but when it isnt it isnt but when it isnt it can be. Clear?

Mountune upgrade can be had for £500, that's a few hundred to me. How much would you like to bet that I can't come up with the cash? I don't know where the extra power nonsense is coming from, the mk7 and the mk8 both make 197.
