Keep coming back to this - really is a lot of car for the money.

Sell the E320, free up some cash and buy this? Hmmm, decisions....

Fantastic wafters these W220s.
No mate. The man on the internet had told me it's like a clown's car. As soon as you fire it the doors all fall off. And it gets worse from that point on.

Joking aside - are the common issues with a W220 much different in cost/bork factor from those afflicting a 7-series or A8 of the same vintage? Similar to Range Rovers - big complex things when new, big complex things when not so new...

Three points against this one, even at shed money.
It's a post 1990ish Mercedes. Which was about when their previously admirable build quality went off a cliff. And kept falling.
It's a diesel. Just too many potential disasters waiting to happen. And not a single one them cheap, All you get in return for the sleepless nights worrying about how much could go wrong (quick answer, lots!) is a few mpg more. And horrible, stinky g at that.
It has admitted electrical problems. Yes, for a Merc of this era it would be a surprise if it didn't but these are actually confessed to in the advert. You can't even listen to the radio ffs!
In short, I would be happier gnawing my own limbs off until my teeth gave out rather than buy this.
Oh, I may not have made it clear but I'm not a fan of newer Mercedes or diesels!

I’ve owned two, a 2004 and my current 2005 model, both fantastic cars. 52 mpg on a motorway cruise is easily achievable, I used my ‘04 to commute weekly from Bournemouth to Brussels and it never let me down. Air suspension can be costly to fix but not as costly as depreciation on a newer car. Performance is excellent, with the torque of a 3.2 diesel engine to shove you along it is more than “adequate” as the RR people would say. I have no complaints about quality whatsoever and agreevthat it is one of the best cars in the world. Would I buy another one? Definitely!

You've got a nerve, coming on here with actual experience of owning and running them. They're the worst car ever made and will explode into a million pieces if you give 'em so much as a funny look.

Ha ha! Personal experience counts for nothing in the car world. Just read all the supercar reviewers, they outnumber the cars by about 100/1 😀

Just to make it worse, I live by the sea and my current 2005 car does not have a speck of rust. Nothing. Immaculate. Bloody thing.

I live by the sea as well. There were a few bits of rust coming through when I first acquired it (all that salt air in North London) but it's been in the menders and is now officially rust free.
Like the colour of your's, Flowman, mine is that boring silver.
