The OP claims he asked for a replacement exhaust in stainless steel. The website doesn't show that product but then it doesn't show many other products either as their core business seems to be fabricating custom exhausts. However the 'About us' page clearly states that they also supply standard exhausts so it seems entirely plausible to me that is what they supplied.
Maybe, maybe not.

I’m out. I’m getting dizzy

He appears to have raised it because its made of S/S when perhaps it wasn't originally. Quite a lot hangs on this for the OP so its important his assessment is correct, isn't it?
But he’s not giving any more detail. I’ve asked him if it’s a decat and he hasn’t answered. I’ve asked him to provide a copy of the receipt and he hasn’t. I’ve asked him to point out which one he bought on their website, he’s not had time to answer that one.

However, if you look at that companies website it’s not a huge leap to work out that they specialise in performance exhausts. If someone turns up wanting a normal one they’re mister likely to send you to Kwik fit as it’s not their core business.
I quite agree that there is plenty to be suspicious about, but innocent until proven guilty and all of that, this is still Blightly you know wink The lack of evidence is a bit disconcerting, but the OP admits to being clueless. As it happens, I'm still waiting to hear why your spidey senses are tingling in relation to my first post in this thread...

As the chap above points out, a replacement rather than performance exhaust is not out the question from the supplier.

Spidey senses are because you’ve decided to post after four years with nothing, that’s all.

No point discussing the insurance side of things, other than to say it’s not a criminal matter there is no innocent until proven guilty. He’s potentially breached the contract with the insurer and that’s enough for the contract to be null and void in terms of fixing his car.

We’ll never find out what happens anyway, as these threads never get a resolution post at the end.

OP you come across as a really genuine person in a spot of bother, I really hope the insurance co wise up and just carry on with the claim and you can move on from their bureaucracy.

I don't know.like I said I never spoke to them about detail.i just said I need a new exhaust in s/s they did the rest.and I can't find the invoice.i phoned them yesterday and they said they just did an exhaust in s/s.all they said was they couldn't get the bolts out of the manifold because they were badly corroded. so they cut the pipe a foot away from the manifold and joined on to it.dude when he said about the manifold.i said what's a manifold.thats how clueless I am about cars.i know what it now because he told me

Right. There’s no way to see that’s a stainless steel system so the insurance guy has either made it up, or there’s a lot more underneath the car.

I’m agreeing that based on that there’s no way to tell. The guy must have looked underneath as there’s nothing to raise suspicion looking at that.

Of course the assessor would look underneath. Why on earth wouldn't they? They might even have a magnet with them.

They would look underneath as the damage is rear passenger door so they would have checked to see damage underneath I would have thought
