Awesome tech? like the one that killed the lady a week ago?
Electric toy cars = 'awesome tech' and you're criticising the OP? biglaugh
The uber XC90? That wasn't an EV was it? Just a driverless XC90 I believe.

Never understand why EV's and driverless cars are always spoken about as if they're the same thing.
Because people doing the talking aren't generally very clever, or trolling. laugh

You seem to be mistaking me for someone else, in an attempt to look clever. I don't own an electric/hybrid car, and have no intention to buy one in the near future.
However, you'd have to be a complete moron to not to understand the need (air quality in cities) and the associated awesome tech advancement.

Ah, it's you. The troll from the ULEZ thread.

You're right, everything in London is fine in terms of air quality. It's just propaganda so that 'the man' can steal your car. laugh

Got a link to the details of how KGL found out 5,900 deaths were related to this?

Why does defra show it's okay then? You're so clever I wish I could be like you biggrin

If you must spend your time trolling, at least try and do it subtly. laugh

I'm not vegan, not even veggie, but if we all stopped eating beef and drinking milk, maybe we could continue driving these cars that we love. The environmental impact of cars is miniscule in comparison to cattle farming. Do your research if you don't believe me.

Also, and I hope someone can clarify this, or maybe correct me, but the majority of the worlds electricity is still produced by burning fossil fuels, yes? This is certainly the case in the UK.

So, how is your electric car any cleaner? Somebody has had to burn oil and gas to produce that electricity. And like your mobile phone, the EV will need more and more power as their capabilities increase, resulting in the burning of more and more fossil fuels.
Well to wheel EV's are more efficient than ICE.
Any improvements in the cleanliness of generation affect every EV in use (it doesn't need to filter down over decades)
Any pollution from generation is mostly away from cities (the air in London is awful).
You can generate electricity from any energy source (it has no reliance on fossil fuels at all)
With a decent home PV system you could charge a car (for an average or low mileage driver).

Also capacity has no bearing on the energy used. Cars don't use more petrol if they have bigger fuel tanks.

Another thing to bear in mind is that powerful ICE cars are generally inefficient at all speeds. No matter how you drive a Lamborghini it will always return crap MPG. EV's don't have that problem.

I feel exactly the same as the OP.

I love the ICE especially the variety you get I.e. different fuels, N/A or forced induction, different cylinder configurations and their associated quirks etc.

I recently decided after years of four cylinder vehicles (Clio 1*2 x 3, MX5, Astra VXR, 320d, other boring stuff) that I was having a break from four cylinder motors.

I bought a three cylinder petrol, ITB’d, 13,000 rpm screamer (Triumph Street Triple) and a straight six BMW (F30 330d, a six cylinder BM had always been on my list).

I’d like a V8 of some description at some point but the Triumph and 330 will be around for a good while.

What an utterly fking rubbish post. It's like PH Cliche Bingo.

The real issue here is not the inevitable increase in EV sales & usage over the coming years, but the resultant decline in petrol demand. This is an infrastructure issue, are Shell or BP seriously going to divert a supertanker to say, Milford Haven, to offload fuel for say 100,000 weekend ICE enthusiasts, with all of the refining, storage & distribution investment in ongoing maintenance that is demanded by this for such a small refurn........as EV usage increases, petrol is set to get very, very expensive

ICE's are not going to die out any time soon. BEV does not suit everyone so the future will be a mix of BEV and Hybrid. The proposed changes in law make ICE only cars banned (note Hybrid is still fine) are 20 years away.

Electric motors give huge torque from zero revs so most ICE performance cars are going to need some sort of electric motor boost just to keep up. That also means they are Hybrids and tick the eco-friendly box.

Cowspiracy is a good documentary on the subject, whatever your leaning diet wise and I make no judgements, certainly (and excuse the pun) food for thought.

Really? And that's for the UK? That's you "counter-stats" ? You want to consider parts of the world that probably dont even think of electric and autonomous cars.

I have been thinking about this on/off for some time. I remember saying digital cameras will never replace film. Although film has bounced back a little. The problem will be buying fuel. If demand falls so much then the oil giants will make batteries instead. Petrol stations will become nightclubs/pound shop/Charity shop/kebab house/hand car wash/push bike shop. Did I forget anything? Or North Korea/Trump/Macauley Culkin might start WW3. That’s my input my pedigree chums. Now go put the kettle on....

No the world.

If we're limiting it to just the UK there there have been no deaths from autonomous cars.

You always laugh at your own posts? Its an odd trait!
