I've no doubt a RWS R8 would be an impressive car in isolation but I just wouldn't want one... and that's not nonsense. It's personal preference.
I totally agree. I think I am struggling to make my point but you have made it for me.

The RWS R8 is an impressive car, its striking and has character. I think most people, when driving it, or even as a passenger, would be blown away by it. Of course there are people out there with a frame of reference that maybe would not be, but most would IMO.
I think that without actually experiencing the car, you can't fully make your mind up on the above, as you don't have all the facts.

But of course you can have a pretty solid idea of if you like it or not without driving it. I just think people are too quick to say something is "bland" or has no character, about stuff that if given the chance we would love a go in!

Again, not trying to offend anyone!

I'm guessing the 'most people' you are talking about are those who never come into contact with/get a chance to drive or passenger in something fast, nothing beyond an ordinary car...???

My neighbours would be find a Golf R impressive at speed. Most thought my previous TTS and amazing car and their presumptions made up the rest... They presumed it was bloody fast. Stick them in a Focus RS, my Cayman S, an Evora or an R8 and their minds will be blown.

Now if you're really into cars, have got to drive some nice staff you will get to know what you'll like, not like and what you want from a car. That will be a lot of people on here... There are people who will just trot out it's bland, no character etc.. But some from experience will genuinely feel that. They know what they like. I never warmed to the previous R8 because to me it never felt special enough. I looked around the interior and I could see all the stuff I had in my TTS. Seats, dash pod, air-con controls, SatNav/Infotainment... all the same. It disappoint me. It also made me realise I didn't want a car that big for my early morning blast... Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it is in anyway a bad car. Fabulous for what it is but not what I want in a sports car.
As I say, most people I know wouldn't find it bland because they've never experienced anything fast. In fact, it wouldn't even have to be any good going round corners, the noise it makes and straight line speed would be enough.

Exactly, it’s all about personal preferences and a solid frame of reference.
Having spent a week last year with an R8 v10, a 675lt, an Aventador, a 991C4S, a 991C2 and a 430 Scud (none of them mine frown ) that experience together with my own wants and take on it all.... I know an RWS R8 won’t do it for me.
Going fast and being low and wise is not enough. That’s is not my definition of striking or character...
So yeah most people... who aren’t used to fast cars will go ‘wow’.... I think most ‘car enthusiasts’ who have a £115k to blow on something eventful want more than generic Audi parts/aesthetic rearranged...
No doubt it will fulfill a few peope’s brief in doing all the things they want well.... and it does ALOT very well. I’m just not interested in a car that’s stand out feature after its engine/drivetrain are it’s LEDs....

Fair enough, I guess I am coming from the point of view of "most people", I think most people, even alot of petrolheads, would find the RWS, or a normal R8 pretty damn special, they certainly always seem to in my experience. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I feel exactly the same way about the 991, its really really nice, but doesn't blow me away, nor do i find it striking. But I still think that a majority of people would, if that makes sense?

Again I pretty much agree. I do think that a lot of people into cars will also been blown away by the RWS, I've plenty of mates who love cars, and have some pretty nice, fast stuff, but not supercars, who 100% are blown away when taken out in a supercar.

My point is literally that there is always the same bunch of opinions on here, that are often coming from people with no frame of reference other than the press and opinions on here!

Yep, agree with the no frame of reference opinion, based on what they’ve read and heard.
Your point re friends with fast cars but no experience of supercars would be blown away by the RWS is pretty much on line with what I was saying re people with no experience of anything at all.
The thing is your fiends with no experience of supercars would likely be blown away by a single experience of anyone car.... a 911 Turbo S, the RWS, Mc 570S, Aston Vantage, new or old etc... so I’d say that’s a rather weak and obvious angle.
Experience all of them though... that’s when opinions form and they become discerning. They form, from experience, the likes, wants and needs they have for the type of car they want. Then the RWS maybe the car that really blows then away or it maybe 911, 570S or Aston.
The RWS is relatively modestly priced so I side stepped Ferrari and Lambo.

With no frame of reference anything can blow you away. My first car did that for me...
Being a non interested member of the public who knows of a Ferrari etc is a step forward
Being an armchair/online enthusiast who bases everything on what they read and hear might be next
Being around supercars and the competition another step
Owning it or it's competition the final step

All of those positions are subjective...and like it or not, all, perfectly valid.
For me the RWS doesn't have enough... Dull...dull in the context of a £115k supercar... it's not dull in comparison to a Juke, or a GT86 or a Cayman, or Mini...it's dull in comparison to pretty much the rest of the £115k supercars... bearing in mind they all do 0-60 in the blink of an eye, they all have an ecu to control the mad-pops and farts, and they all have a huge range of bright colours with stitching to match..
This is just another Audi bolt on product, that simply extends it's mass of niche busting same again styling exercises. Beautifully made, but ultimately too clever for its own good and devoid of character, in the context o fit's immediate and relevant competition...
Porsche tread a very fine line with this too... drip feeding varying states of spec and power and limited production runs. Porsche don't make little mini 911s for shopping though (yet) so they stay slightly better off.
It's that age old question of getting the super spec budget marque or the cheaper spec luxury marque...
Again personally I'd prefer something that looked special, and required some effort to drive and didn't rely on spangly LEDs to differentiate itself with (I saw an HGV with these on today, so that's that 'specialness' buggered... )
I wonder if the Ford GT would be received so well if it had a Fiesta nose grafted on it...

But then it would look like an Aston Martin!
