I had a 309 SRi as my first car. My mother had a 1.6 309 which was the first car I used for shenanigans.

The SRi was broken into more times than Jordan.

Plus the rear window openérs in the 309 were a work of genius. I've been in hundreds of cars but I've never seen that before or after

I'm sure somebody may enlighten me but the 2 levers between the front seats were magic
Yes they did, really clever idea which you can see here @ 41 secs

I'd actually forgotten about those, what's also hurting me is this is 30 years ago since I had mine and it just doesn't seem that long ago.

Seems black was the popular colour choice..

Never seen that before, very clever. My 106GTi had an electric version of it.

biggrin...... As for the 80k comment ..... Mine would of probably been kept and the mileage I was doing would of exceeded this,I sold at 35k but I can't say I got off lightly,it was all under warranty so only cost me inconvenience.

Try finding any 309 GTI! It’s a bit sickening that they’re almost extinct. I wonder how many of them ended up as donors for 1.6 205s.

Only 50-60 regularly taxed and about 300 SORN.

My Dad had one from new in 1987 to 2003 and it was utterly shagged by then. Every Mot was £500+ by the end.
Cannot actually remember the last time I saw a 309 GTI on the road! love the nostalgia pics posted here.Alot of them were thrashed and trashed
back in the day making the survivor examples a very rare breed,,if you have a nice one hang on to it!

Most old Peugeots are pretty much extinct. When did you last see a 405? Or a MK1 106? Even the 406 is becoming a rare sight.

Here ya go - one in Barcelona, 4500€ it aint cheap. He says that it has a small dent in the right side - look at the pic, it looks enormous laugh Remove the rear inner panel, give it a shove and I bet that'll pop right back out.

Pah, I'd rather head to Lyon for a Lion with some real teeth at 1500 wink

I'll spend the extra 3k I saved on a rolling restoration

I think you must have been unlucky. We owned one for 11 years and it was none of those things. Perhaps because ours was 13 years old when we bought it, most of the gremlins had been ironed out and modern tyres had tamed the tail. Actually found it to be very comfortable too. My wife, who slipped a disc aged 15 and has a chronic back can't get comfortable in most cars, but as her daily driver, found it very comfortable indeed! She hated the Clio 182 we test drove on the other hand...said it had a terrible driving position!!

As for the 309, this thread just makes me more and more frustrated that so many 80s/90s cars that I fancied owning are now "unobtanium". I guess its a case of identifying the next gen 309 as the article suggests and getting in before the prices rise.

I reckon the Mk1 Focus ST170 could be the next 309. Its far from ugly, but generally unappreciated next to the later STs and the RS, but I reckon being a Mk1 Focus, it will become valuable in time. Great chassis.

Could be worth a trip if you really wanted one. The other 2 GTI-16s for sale are, much nicer, but also around 10-12k

We got the Goodwood instead over here

Oh don't get me wrong because when I get in them I still usually say to myself please start and don't mess me about smile

As to the wrong side..... well I actually like our set up but much prefer the quality of the roads through a lot of Europe that I've covered. I can always adjust to driving a left hand drive abroad,I just feel more comfortable the way we do it here and the other countries that it applies.
A very nice combination you have.thumbup

English roads and congestion suck...and the weather too. If I lived in England, I wouldn't own a car and I'd stay in and never go out.... laugh And I certainly wouldn't eat the food, nor sleep with the women neither..hahahaha...JOKE!!! biglaugh

Don't want to turn this into a Cerbie thread, but having had the 4.2 and 4.5 I swear the early 4.2, probably one of the first, was the quickest. Unfortunately, it was painted in aquamarine nail varnish hurl

A friend of mine in the early 2000's had a Phase1 Clio Williams which was lovely, but way out of my league, so I bought a mint Megane Coupe 16v, which had the same engine but in a bigger, slightly heavier shell. We often went out for spirited drives and there was never much in it, when we both swapped cars for a blast around. Nowadays, both are rare but the Clio is still at least 5 or 6 times more expensive. Poor mans relation I know, but I never felt massively short changed against the Clio

I always found the 309 in it's day to be a bit boring to look at even though I knew it was a good drive.

Compared to some of today's Peugeot offerings it looks quite cute and compact.
