Rose tinted glasses. My girlfriend at the times dad replaced his SDi with a green one of those. Sooo plasticky and dare I say awful. There was nothing redeeming about it. The 205 Gti was so much better.

Yeah those 205s are well known for their Mercedes rivalling interiors laugh

Not too sure you'd be buying an 80's Peugeot for the interior quality, however the 205 was a much nicer place to be interior wise.

A friend of mine in the early 2000's had a Phase1 Clio Williams which was lovely, but way out of my league, so I bought a mint Megane Coupe 16v, which had the same engine but in a bigger, slightly heavier shell. We often went out for spirited drives and there was never much in it, when we both swapped cars for a blast around. Nowadays, both are rare but the Clio is still at least 5 or 6 times more expensive. Poor mans relation I know, but I never felt massively short changed against the Clio
That is a good one - rarely see one now and the last one I did see was the bright yellow they did. First really hot Megane?

Bet there's not many left now

Another one is the 2wd Sapphire Cosworth - half the price of the big wing 3-door, basically same mechanicals but better handling

Miami Blue?

Always seemed more common on the 106 XSi and 205 GTi than the 309. Most 309 GTis tended to be red or black, if memory serves me correctly.

I'd go back to Peugeot tomorrow if they'd make something interesting again. The trouble is the competition has caught up.
Isn't the 208 GTi highly rated?

My 106GTi was similar but slightly lighter / brighter - although could just be the image.

What about the Orion 1.6i? An XR3i without the high insurance, and in a more practical body. You can still get a good one for about £1k

Yes, it's Miami Blue which does look great in the flesh, the image colour is a bit off though.

The factory 309gti 16s came in a similar colour, only available though in Europe.

Sadly most 309s rotted away.

Just a few that came to mind. Not sure that I agree with the 306 Rallye/GTi-6. Yeah, they're not that expensive yet but it was always well-rated at the time and a very pretty car. Was the Citroen Xsara VTS not the 306's ugly sister (and the ZX Volcane before it)?

BMW 325ti Compact (325/330Ci)

Abarth (Grande) Punto (Abarth 500)

MG ZS (MG ZR)

Skoda Octavia vRS esp. mk1 (Golf GTi/Leon Cupra etc)

Suzuki Ignis Sport (Swift Sport)

Polo GTi (always lived in the shade of its big brother)

VW Vento VR6

Ford Mondeo ST220/2.5T (Focus ST)

Vauxhall Vectra/Insignia VXR (Astra VXR)

Different brands but the Celica 190 vs. Integra Type-R? I nearly bought one once, as I really wanted the Type-R but insurance on the Celica was a fraction of the cost and similar stats.

Well I had 2, the first was a bright red one (S330 EWY) but got written off by an old lady who wasn't paying attention, so with the insurance money I bought a ST202 Celica which I ran for 3 years, but i couldn't resist, so bought a canary yellow one in 2009 for £600 on ebay (S75 JRM) with less than 30k on the clock. That was a peach of a car and I ran that for a further 5 years, before succumbing to a wife and family, so had to buy something sensible. A guy bought that off me and it was stripped for parts unfortunately...wouldnt mind another one, but very rare now

I've just had a brief scan and can't even find a Uk 150bhp one for sale!

Gone with the wind I guess.......

Can you really count the 405 MI16? How many were butchered for 205 swaps? Now even the 405 is hard to find for sale, nevermind the MI16

Yeah they have. I had chance to buy a llocal one late last year
but the wife said no, and it was nice and v cheap. Wish I had as they would make a great weekend/track car now with a bit of fettling. I m still hopeful I will get another one before they're resigned to the annuls...

Much truth in this, although the main reason that S type Rs are cheaper than M5s of the same era, is that most of the M5s have blown up, but the majority of Jags are still going strong. Get the 4.2 Jag; significantly more power, and the stronger engine.
