Red car at 5 minutes is quite special
almost spat my coffee out watching that
Are we watching different videos? is this a running joke?
5mins is the grey estate car in the rain.....

Folks are posting comments about something at X time and when you go take a look it's nothing like described.

The next clip. we should assume a +/- 1 minute tolerance for references to time frames.

The reason it is disputed is that he's bloody flying given the principle of stopping in the distance you can see to be clear.

I'd suspect the Police womans comments had more to do with a speed awareness than advanced driving,

At first a white outline of the trucks reg can been seen, but goes black at the time it should be possible to read it

He does just about stop in the distance he can see at the beginning of the clip, and would have done if he hadn't have gone off road. Obviously the oncoming lorry means that distance wasn't sufficient.

Saw this on Facebook a few weeks back before it was removed. Everyone was saying the guy was going way too fast but I think he did a brilliant job at avoiding everything.

Yeah, it's clearly the BMW drivers fault, he should have known a massive HGV was coming around that blind corner on the wrong side of the road.

There's always somebody on PH playing devils advocate. rolleyes

I'm too thick to understand that reference, but clever enough to see victim blaming when I see it.

From the M25 this morning. Between j10-11 or thereabouts (not so familiar with this section myself).

Thought it was just the usual congestion but turned out to be a Fiat 500 stopped in lane 3 of 4.

Two issues for me here -

1.The driver of the Fiat was a middle aged bloke still sitting in his vehicle. He looked okay so I assume no medical issue. I can't believe he felt sitting in his stationary Fiat 500 in lane 3 of the M25 was the safest place for him. While stopping in lane 3 isn't great, I assume some sort of mechanical failure in stop/start traffic and not having the momentum to drift across to the hard shoulder.

But whatever it was, just get to safety ASAP!

2. What alarmed me more was the (probably hundreds of) vehicles who ignored the lane 3 and 4 closures and happily proceeded beyond the big red 'Xs'. The gantry in the clip was not the first to display the lane closures - there was one 3 or 4 minutes before this one which switched the 'Xs' on just as I was nearing it. Hence, no exaggeration to say probably hundreds of vehicles ignored the lane closures.

Not sure about other smart motorways but the stretch near the RAC in Birmingham had cameras going off like a nineties rave as drivers went under a red x gantry sign, I was going the opposite way at night and could see the matrix in my mirrors.

I can't think of a single situation that would result in me sitting in L3 in those conditions with the exception of a total lock up of the entire running gear which hasn't happened here.

I'm going to be given 100 options now, so await my parrot.

A quick check online reveals it's a diesel.

I get your point though. Think I'd be driving like Mother Theresa in lane 1 if that was my issue.

I think pushing/pulling a broken down vehicle from lane 3 of the M25 to a safe position is probably a job for those suitably equipped.

I sure as hell wouldn't be risking the wellbeing of my 4 passengers for a perfectly well looking fella who's making no effort to help himself. Of course, there could be more to the story but without anything obvious to say so, I'm not surprised nobody was in a hurry to stop.

A lorry driver could have helped like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6N1n9yfj84

But obviously they are all too busy fapping off their limiters while drooling over their busy schedules on facebook

a few years ago on the NB M6 just before the A38M turn 2 trucks collided in front of me, a guy was trapped in his cab in the middle lane and all people could think about was getting past until an artic pulled into lane 3 and blocked it while we tried to get him out of the cab, they just didn't care, if one of the guys pulling at the door had let go he'd have been under the wheels of a passing car before this guy stopped them, they weren't crawling past either

The issue is really that these lights are so frequently wrong that people know that 99% of the time they can be ignored.

And, with any lane closure, people have always driven right up the end of the lane before cutting in. Just because there are red signs doesn't mean the road is any different.
