It's primarily up to the car behind to not drive into the car in front,
Of course the driver behind has a duty not to drive into the car in front. No one suggests otherwise.

and that is why insurers have always (and sometimes unfairly) used a rule of thumb that says you are at fault if you drive into the back of someone else, unless there is real evidence to the contrary.
It's a long established position and I don't think anyone's trying to argue against it.

mac96 said:
This question was originally about insurer's division of liability, not about advanced driving.
I stated early on in the first of the two clips under discussion that insurance liability would likely go 100% against the driver behind, that much was pretty clear cut. The discussion was about "st driving caught on cam" as per the thread title; some of us are arguing from a driver's perspective that it can apply to both the car ahead as well as the car behind, even when the insurance liability falls on just one driver.

This thread is dead mate, and I'm fairly sure there are one or two here starting arguments for the fun of it.

I just check in now to see what level the moronic bickering has got to :-)

It was his brakes he needed, not his horn.

Yep. The Volvo FHs and DAF XFs are terrible for it, I speak from experience. He couldn't have been in a worse blind spot position there. Virtually impossible to see him from the driver's seat unless his kerb mirror above the door was a) angled correctly (most aren't) and b) it be clean and not covered in spray which it would have been there.

There is also the small detail that the accident wouldn't have happened if the camera car wasn't driving so slowly to cause trucks limited to 56mph to overtake. By the speed the ISO tank truck went past he wasn't driving at more than 50mph. rolleyes

Indeed, I always give it full beans overtaking any foreign registered wagon, for that very reason. You're asking for trouble sitting in their blind spot.

It's not just the foreigners. It's just the same for RHD trucks if you have traffic on your nearside (2 roads merging where a 'new' lane 1 is created, for example). Got to be really careful to check, double check and triple check there's nothing sat on your f/n/s corner before moving over into the lane. I got into the habit of having the passenger side window cranked open slightly so you can hear the road noise if something is there. Saved my bacon on a few occasions.

It is WOT yes! I wondered after seeing your username if you might play it smile . I haven't played in a while as I lost my rag too many times being bottom tier and having useless top tier heavies. Mostly watch Circon's Twitch VOD downloads but after seeing him rage the MM looks to be worse than ever so I'm in no rush to go back to it. I must say the EBR 75 wheeled tank is looking like a lot of fun but I was useless in the ELC and E-25 so probably don't have quick enough reactions to be any good in it. frown

Anyway moving swiftly on.. hehe

At 4.50 when the car rear ends the one in front its brake lights start flashing just before the impact. I guess it's possible the driver was pumping the brakes but is it a thing that when ABS kicks in it also makes the brake lights flash? A good idea if that is the case.

Very heavy braking makes the brake lights flash. Been a thing on cars for at least a decade.
