The Honda was in the correct lane for the M62.
Looked again, so it was, was looking at the A650 on the road, I cringe watching it back, can't believe I was daft enough to try and still take the exit. I could see I was in the wrong lane but thought the Honda was going to take the exit, luckily I realized at the very last moment. Must have only been inches between us. Cycled into work yesterday, reminded me of this little incident I had a few days earlier.

Its remarkable how people act when they quickly caught in the wrong. The obvious thing to do would be to apologise profusely but for some reason defence kicks in.
Well done to the driver - some would have escalated that rapidly.

If you turn into a road you are supposed to give way to anyone crossing it

Everywhere (tries to think of any exceptions) give way to pedestrians
But he's not a pedestrian. And the car has passed the give way marking before he enters the road so Shirley the car was in the road first?
And the cyclist is cycling on a path. With no helmet at the time of being on a road...

However the HC says everyone has a duty to avoid a collision - job done

I had a lady nearly knock me off my bike recently (reversing off her driveway without looking properly - I was on the road). She pulled up alongside me and apologised a few hundred yards up the road, but asked why I yelled at her (it was a quiet residential area - no other traffic). I explained that as a cyclist I've ONE chance to get her attention, so that initial, adrenaline fueled, shout is often going to be far louder (and sometimes swearier!) than it needed to be...but if it's not loud enough, I'm potentially dead,
And then we both went on our way. The roads don't need to be full of conflict. So many of these videos are stupid over-reactions. There's a few biker ones which show a massive difference between female (biker) and male biker responses...enlightening.

In this case it's major to minor, so the pedestrian shouldn't be there. Not to mention that's a stupid idea from the cyclist as you're in the A-pillar blind spot of the car. And on the pavement.

"Biker calmly drives into clearly open door of parked vehicle and comes off worse"You could see that the door was opening at 3 seconds into that video when the cyclist takes a wide berth.
Yes, the car shouldn't have opened the door wide at all when there was clearly passing traffic, but a little bit of self-preservation and observation would prevent this biker becoming a statistic.

Fair enough
However the HC says everyone has a duty to avoid a collision - job done
No it doesn't, (In the new drivers annex it says there is a "Need to continue to develop your skills, especially anticipating other road users’ behaviour to avoid having a collision" Which is not quite the same thing. However the HC says everyone has a duty to avoid a collision - job done
It does also say "
'try to anticipate what pedestrians and cyclists might do."
It's good advice but It wouldn't mean it was OK to force someone to brake, to avoid a collision in any event. The car driver did avoid a collision. The cyclist was in the wrong.
It also says.
"You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement."
"look all around before moving away from the kerb, turning or manoeuvring, to make sure it is safe to do so. Give a clear signal to show other road users what you intend to do"
"You should wear
a cycle helmet which conforms to current regulations, is the correct size and securely fitted.
light-coloured or fluorescent clothing which helps other road users to see you in daylight and poor light"
