Wouldnt most people in the DCW position allow the van out maybe with a flash of the lights?
The basic problem here is the dash cam driver doesn't follow the 2-second rule.

It certainly looks like it needs a lot of work. But surely the driver/attendant has to carry responsibility too. I don't think Tesla promote it as something that allows you remove all attention from whats going on.
Maybe but the brand it as auto pilot.

The defination as such, ''An autopilot is a system used to control the trajectory of an aircraft without constant 'hands-on' control by a human operator being required.''

And system that requires hands on shouldnt be called AP, it should be called driver assit, but that just wouldnt sell.
Teslas don't really have much more in the way of driver assistance features than many cars do, but they do promote their technology as Autopilot. They've had to dial back their self driving claims a bit since that guy got decapitated under a lorry but they say the technology will allow for self driving in the future with software updates and they have videos of cars driving themselves.

https://www.tesla.com/en_GB/autopilot

With driver assistance technology being made compulsory on all cars, we could see a lot more of people trusting their cars to do more on their own to avoid hazards than they can and even more blaming of cars and their automated functions when things go wrong. The EU is only really mandating automated braking, lane keeping and speed limit assist programmes because manufacturers have trumped up their capabilities to make even EU bureaucrats think they can do more than they really can.

I am struggling to see any safety benefit in the camera car getting so close to the white Skoda in front of it.

It was to encourage the Skoda driver to move over, something the Skoda driver couldn't reasonably be expected to do if they were aware that the van in lane two was catching up with the vehicle in front of it in lane two?

Perhaps that whole situation could've been avoided and inconvenienced the driver of the camera car less if the driver of the white Skoda had put their foot down so they could have moved over to lane two sooner?

Perhaps the driver of the camera car was late for an important appointment, a flight or a ferry?

It's the Skoda drivers fault.
My thoughts.

Dash cam driver had an inkling the van was going to pull in front of him so closed the gap to the Skoda because he didn’t want to let the van in. Van came across anyway doing what many van drivers do.

I’m mostly in agreement except this van driver had an indicator going so was slightly better than the usual affair.

It's not just the van driver who is an idiot in that clip.

It wasn't 'going' really. He indicated and manoeuvred at almost the same time.

No idea why the poster is copping so much flak. Yes they closed the gap on the white car as it was traveling slowly, however the van is the vehicle in the wrong not checking mirrors or blind spot.

The MLM shouldn't have been in L2.
The camera car could have displayed better anticipation and allowed space for the van to move to L3.
The van shouldn't have moved to L3 given lack of space to do so safely.

All of the above mean incident. Take away any 1 of the 3 and no incident, seems to me.

Amen. I think Boris should send his 20,000 out in a swarm to target the motorway network for a week. He’d pay for their salaries with the fines they issued if they targeted MLM’s, tailgaters, phone users etc.

Your screen is wrong. The van only started signalling when the DCW was starting to come along side him.

Can someone tell me what was going on with the lights on the Beemer at 1:35? Graduated brake lights?

The Citroen van driver isn't a MLM. He/she had someone 2 seconds in front of them, so they had every right to stay on the middle ......... but not to move to L3.

Completely agree. You could see that van starting to drift ages before you reacted.

It continues to amaze me that people post these dashcam videos in the genuine belief that they've done nothing wrong. Put bluntly, both of you were driving without due care here.

Their miserable, boring, nasal conversation could easily cause an accident too.... Could put an insomniac to sleep.

I'm not an advocate of blood-sports, but for this two I'd make an exception!

I'm more saddened that people's reaction these days is increasingly to "report" everything that they don't like. The first two cars weren't even going particularly fast from what little could be seen and I doubt they were much above the (presumably) NSL, if at all. Makes a change to see cars actually making decent progress on a NSL rather than the usual 35-40mph that seems to have become the norm these days.
