No idea why he did this. You end up on the M6 northbound from either lane.

I'd wager he didn't gather that. Not concentrating, thought 'crap, I'm about to depart the motorway' hence swift shift right.

Got to call you out on this one- the road rage is entirely down to the prick in the blue car driving aggressively and not leaving emotion it of it.

Spruce's only flaw was not being defensive enough to perhaps avoid this wker's wrath.
I disagree. You set off from the lights in lane 2, giving it some beans to get in fromt of the other plebs, but then out of nowhere some nobber appears, but not behind you so you can move over and let them past, but instead comes roaring up your inside doing an undertake and nearly colliding with you in the process. Despite what you may say on this thread, I am 99.9% sure you would be more than a little bit vexed by their driving nobbery, probably not enough to start gesticulating wildly out of the window, but enough to be pissed off by their antics, especially when there's no explanation for what their problem is.

TSG put himself in that situation because he was driving like a nob.

It also happens a little further back when the right lane goes off to join the toll road early. Can get quite dangerous when lorries decide to be in the right hand lane.

There's a similar junction where the northbound A1 and M1 join just south of wetherby.

You often find people don't want to be in the inner slip lane for some reason. Both slips join separately.

You can see some folks jostling for position and not wanting to be left in the left slip. Often you can just carry on smoothly and end up ahead from the left slip.

It's a little like multiple queues in a post office. Pick a lane and chill out is often better bit a lot of people get antsy and paranoid about it.

Left slip normally gets you a bit further down the motorway.

I think I know that slip road. I think the left hand slip road has a much shorter entrance to the mway. Perhaps that's it.

I've seen all sorts of odd behaviour there. Last time I passed through there a Micra moved from an empty lane 1 to lane 3 at about 45mph. The Garmin nav in my last car always gave a keep right instruction there though which probably exacerbates the problem.

The video I posted is from the end of the M61 where it merges on to the M6. The other issue here is drivers don't seem to realise that lane 2 off the M61 becomes a new lane on the M6 and therefore there is no need to immediately move over - most seem to treat it like a slip road. I've seen people stop with a right indicator on when there's 400 yards of clear road in front of them.

When it's really busy the quickest way along the M6 through there is just to keep left between J29 and J31.

I drove through that junction quite regularly before my parents moved north, and I found that Waze would suggest that I keep right or keep left depending on which direction saved 0.1 of a second (usually told me to keep right in free flowing traffic, and keep left in heavy traffic, which kind of makes sense when you think about it), and that my old car's factory satnav always told me to keep right approaching that split.

Notable was the kindness to the drunk jaywalker, I thought.
