Pretty nasty - second truck stopped really quickly which is quite surprising. Never ceases to amaze how quickly even a fully-loaded modern artic can stop.

Yes, that could have been just a light spin into the barrier but that car was really hammered. Thankfully huge brakes and a ton (lots of) weight pushing the following lorry's tyres into the tarmac helped it stop in time.

Ouch - glad the lorry driver was prosecuted, too often they make excuses in this type of incident and blame the car driver for being in the wrong place.

Fair play to the 2nd lorry driver he was on the ball , if the lazy driver in the 1st lorry just looked right he could of saved this carnage frown gone are the days of decent heavy goods drivers sadly few and far between , after seeing footage not sure how this amounted to 3 hrs of closure however especially seeing who is at fault clearly

Derbyshire Times, who were the source for NEP reported serious none life changing injuries to the Scirocco's occupants. Maybe they needed cutting out?

Presumably it was a left hand drive cab. Half surprised no one has blamed the car driver for being in the blind spot yet.

Can I blame the driver for trundling along at 56mph? This video show exactly why it's a bad idea to be driving at HGV speeds.

You could do, but it road works section and limited to 50...so can't really be helped.

Of course not - all 3 lanes were moving at much the same speed due to the 50mph speed limit. In fact the truck driver is even more wrong (is that possible?) as a professional driver (they always say that) he should have been aware that the 50mph limit on a 3 lane road with moderate traffic increases the risk of that type of situation massively.

In my experience HGVs will drive at 56mph when the average speed limit is 50mph, possibly in the knowledge that 56mph is within the "10% +2" threshold, whereas (some) car drivers tend to stick to an indicated 50mph just to be on the safe side.

We're just sitting at a GPS verified 50-53'ish where as cars are doing about 46-47 at the most. As an observation a lot of cars are generally going 45 or less dribbling along without an idea of what's going on around them.

Of course it’s 100% the HGV drivers fault, but I still don’t understand why people continue to sit alongside HGV’s or any vehicle for that matter, either be ahead or behind then there is zero risk of being in someone’s blind spot and putting your life in their hands.

Pretty much there. If I'm passing a foreign registered truck my aim is to pass it ASAP. Saying as much without relieving the truck driver of blame, as you say, 100% his fault.

Very much this. There are several of these sorts of collision featured in YouTube videos. In many/most of them the victim has been cruising alongside the heavy for several minutes. A thinking driver will not be alongside an HGV, or any other moving vehicle for that matter, for more than a few seconds . . .

07:45 "Check youtube you will be on air" doesnt quite have the same ring to it as "Check the post for a citation for careless driving" does it?

Do DCW's really think that stopping to tell someone their misjudged driving is going online is worth it?

Jesus.

I have had various Dashcams since around 2009 - if I posted every clip of every bit of bad, misjudged or otherwise not 100% driving online, I would need a team of assistants to do so...... but in reality, some of that driving would be my own - lets face it, we all make errors on the road - live and let live and move on.
