Have the same accident in cars and the end result wouldn't have been as severe for what was the same error. It wouldn't be punished by 16 months in jail either.

That would almost certainly have been fatal for both drivers had it been two cars so no need for a sentence. A head on at 120mph+ in cars is going to sting a bit. He was going 70mph in what I assume is a 60mph limit. Yes it's over the speed limit, but it's not outrageous or indeed unusual.
The video doesn't show him pushing his luck. I see him travelling at a reasonable speed and for some reason being badly caught out by that corner.
I still can't see why that corner upset the Subaru like it did. The car following behind had no issues at a similar speed.

He couldn’t get his car round that corner at that speed for whatever reason so his actions weren’t those reasonably expected of a competent driver hence why he was convicted of dangerous driving.
