Funny how both looks and sound are subjective yet it is totally acceptable to mock and call the Civic chav whilst its not ok for someone to think that a VAG 4 pot sounds like a trumpet farting its way through gear changes.....
I shouldn't expect anything less
That picture was a piss take of the look of the exhaust pipes on the civicI shouldn't expect anything less

Regardless the VAG 4 pot sounds like a trumpet farting, I hear them everyday in Camden, mostly driven at full pelt by spotty 20 somethings.
I'm guessing you're referring to the DSG fart? What about a manual version then? Are you in too deep to admit you totally misunderstood the trumpet image?vz-r_dave said:

You admit that a car's sound is a subjective matter, yet you're getting annoyed that other people aren't agreeing with your opinion on what a VAG engine sounds like?I shouldn't expect anything less

Irony-impaired, now that's PH logic
If a car sounding like a trumpet farting gets you going then good for you.
I never said it did. I do quite like it actually, keeping on topic. Again though, these are all 4-cylinder turbo cars. None of them are exactly sonorous ear porn. They don't sound bad for what they are though.

What's your particular issue with VW doing that, if i may ask?
It's a tried and tested engine that is comfortably offered in various states of tune. The performance models get more power, yet remain relatively frugal and generally reliable on the whole.
Seems quite clever to me, especially from a manufacturing point of view. I see this stated alot on here but i personally struggle to see why. Wouldn't VW be mad not to do it this way?
I can understand it's not to everyone's tastes but it clearly works for them.
Honda do it as well, the 9th gen UK built Civic was basically a reskin of the 8th gen, I don't have a problem with manufactures doing it.It's a tried and tested engine that is comfortably offered in various states of tune. The K20C1 engine in the FK8 is basically the same unit as the previous FK2 Type-R, just a minor power bump.
My problem with VAG doing it with the performance models is that it dilutes something that should be special, I simply cannot get excited over yet another rehash, this includes all the limited and special editions they put out.
Anyway regarding the looks of the Civic, I'll take the mostly functional aero and in my eyes looks brilliant.
Thread revival, a different view: AMS from having it at the bottom of their lists, now put it on top.

Lapping their reference track quicker than the Type-R ánd the Clubsport S. And they love how it feels, even on winters on the road. Which reinforces my view that it is basically a Clubsport S with the much missed - where did it go - rear seat. Underestimated car?
This of course makes me feel better about my Cupra ST that has a similar range of mods to fix the areas where I found the stock item lacking That said, if I didn't need an estate, I still most certainly would have a real close look at the Type-R....
