Don't forget the M140i while you can still buy a new one - and at least you don't look like a tool driving one.

And also don't forget we won't see its like again when all hot hatches are FWD/4WD with 4 pot turbos.

The clock is ticking.....
Yeah cos everyone loves BMW drivers ha ha
Beat me to it! With so many bellends out there driving 116/118ds, I don't think they have the strongest image tbh!

..having said that, an M135i 5 door (orM140i), preferably in blue, is probably my favourite BMW of the last 5 or 6 years!

The type r seems more in demand but theres little doubt the seat is the current and new king, until the megane comes out that is.

This is the golden age of the hot hatch, bar the fact they squeeze too much out of cars which can cause reliability issues.

I don't see the appeal of yet another MQB/EA888 VAG parts bin apart from cheap PCP deals.

The Civic all day long, so much so it is the first brand new car I am considering purchasing but will probably wait for the facelift, Rallye Red or Sonic Grey Pearl with carbon pack for me.

It's the rear exhaust that ruins it for me, just reminds me of:

Lol who at VAG signed it off? It sounds rediculous and yet all the little chavs seem to adore it.

Didn't realise the Civic was VAG.

What's your particular issue with VW doing that, if i may ask?

It's a tried and tested engine that is comfortably offered in various states of tune. The performance models get more power, yet remain relatively frugal and generally reliable on the whole.

Seems quite clever to me, especially from a manufacturing point of view. I see this stated alot on here but i personally struggle to see why. Wouldn't VW be mad not to do it this way?

I can understand it's not to everyone's tastes but it clearly works for them.

It's not as if other manufacturers aren't doing it either
BMW use Mini engines vice/versa, hell they use a 1.5 from a mini in a £110,000+ car!

Mercedes use some 4 bangers from renault

Aston use V8 from merc

It's like people expect completely new engines for every new car or model that gets released. The realistic truth is, this would take up way too much money and time and really isn't an efficient way for manufacturer's to work.

Don't fix what ain't broken!

The Civic doesn't sound like a trumpet, that's a VAG speciality.

I'm fairly sure he was referring to the hideously mismatched triple exhaust, not the sound that comes out of it.
To be honest they both sound pretty st.

OK, I am biased because I have a Cupra but no matter how great the Civic is just look at it....not for me thanks
I've had my Cupra 300 a year now and have to agree, maybe if I was 30 something instead of 50 something I would see it differently but the Leon does a great job of wafting me to work everyday in relative comfort while also allowing plenty of fun on the back roads when the mood takes.

The few faults I can live with, the front end axle tramp is easily defeated by using some common sense and Cupra mode on the adaptive damping when pulling away quickly.

It also looks fantastic in Mystery Blue.

They both sound very similar. Not sure what you're expecting from two cars such as this.

What do you expect 4-pots to sound like? I doubt that the Civic injects much aural pleasure into the atmosphere either.

Civic for me. The Leon is just too VW generic and doesn't have a real diff either. That's the difference between being serious about a perormance FWD car and just tossing it off for me.

Sounds as though you should have bought a golf R which does all of that without the axle tramp. It remains the best daily hot hatch you can buy. And I did for that reason.

Funny how both looks and sound are subjective yet it is totally acceptable to mock and call the Civic chav whilst its not ok for someone to think that a VAG 4 pot sounds like a trumpet farting its way through gear changes.....

I shouldn't expect anything less

  1. PHlogic!

You admit that a car's sound is a subjective matter, yet you're getting annoyed that other people aren't agreeing with your opinion on what a VAG engine sounds like?

Irony-impaired, now that's PH logic wink

Who said I was getting annoyed and where did I say I wanted everyone to agree with me?

If a car sounding like a trumpet farting gets you going then good for you.
