For all those talking about how it's a crap drive because of XYZ, Henry's video (a man who has driven his fair share) suggests this is a bloody good drive:

https://youtu.be/togrktBejbs

Cars should not be judged by numbers alone - and that all numbers, not just performance.

I wish people would stop focusing on the 911 as the default alternative. The 911 is the ONLY sports car with 4 viable seats, it's the only car I have a passion to buy that can do the school run. That means it stands alone.

Surely the Vantage is an alternative for 2 seat sports/GT cars.
Lotus Evora
Nissan GTR
C63 coupe
BMW M4
RS5
M2
RC-F
The GTR is the only thing there that sits in 'maybe'. The rest are not sportscars.

Nonsense. The GTR just about, although is a very different car. I would put this against:

Porsche 911
Audi R8 RWS
Mclaren 540C
Honda NSX
Lotus Evora (just about)
Maserati Granturismo Stradale

Against this lot, I think the Vantage stands up pretty well.

going to give my view, as i have seen in the flesh and sat in, and also seen one come past me, presumably on a road test, it looks absolutely fantastic, and fresh update, as in other cars should and probably will start following these design cues, the old vantage to me looked completely dated, this is what i wanted to see from Aston martin. something younger guys that could afford it may want to buy because its not dated to look at, not just 50+ guys that need to fit golf clubs in the boot, and that's my opinion. great job aston.

Well it is great that the new Vantage is getting such positive exposure on the driving front.. bravo Aston however, i wont be investing .. Yet.

Its been a few months now and the looks still haven't grown on me from the front. I'll wait till they redesign that god awful face. For me the ability of this thing on the track is of little relevance for my projected use, and i still enjoy the connection that a manual box brings to a car, so without a manual its also a no go.

That said, i hope that the new owners who do take the plunge really enjoy their new toys and do the leg work in ironing out all the bugs that will inevitably crop up so that when they redesign the face and pop a manual in it i can have some fun too biggrin

Slightly off topic, but having done a few track days, I can say this.... the lads driving/passengering in the Clio sports, MX5's, and Caterhams (to name but a few) always seem to have much bigger grins on their faces than the boys in the Porches, M series Beemers, Nissan GTR's etc.... I suspect the majority of newly purchased Vantages won't be seeing a track for many years to come....

Not sure it's supposed to be a track car - I think the fact that Aston (etc) use a track for the press launch, is more about allowing the journos to legally push the car in an environment that will mostly avoid them ending up in a hedge or jail.

IN short - just because a car gets tested on the track, doesn't mean that's it's intended stomping ground.

You've hit the nail on the head here I think. Astons traditionally were for the gent who went to Saville Row for his clothing, drank cocktails, would holiday on the Riviera etc etc. You get the picture. Rather like the old boss, Victor Gauntlett. Or James Bond.

Nowadays the demographic of money has changed. Subtlety no long reigns. Shouting about it - both in terms of styling, to appeal to - shall we say - more recently made money, and the noise a car makes, have changed completely in the past 15 years. And countries that would not have bought in large numbers even 20 years ago are now the largest markets. And they have different tastes in styling.

And it's also clear that, to survive, they have to sell more cars. It's not good enough to survive by selling almost an entire year of production to the Sultan of Brunei (I think that actually happened one year) to keep the company afloat. So it's completely understanding that Aston has produced a car - to what seems like the majority on here - that is ugly (especially the front and interior), but is dynamically capable.

Personally, judging by the pictures alone, the back is ok, the front looks awful and interior full of mismatched shapes and angles. But then I'm the sort of person who would never, ever spec black wheels on a car or have flurosecent lime green accents etc.

If I had the funds, and was in the market for such a car, I'd buy a DB11 volante in green or blue with a tan interior.

Or save a shed load of cash and buy a V8 vantage (before the front end went weird).

Regardless, I wish Aston luck with this and their continued success.
Basically, its just not old, Jimmy Saville looking, white guys that they are trying to appeal to...

They are after us new money, cool sexy types, with straight teeth... lol

I love it and cant wait to see a few old miserable white faces.... Like always... Makes my day... lol

That's a sweet shortlist...

for me:
Macca
Honda
911
Aston
Maserati
Lotus
Audi

agreed was a clever move and got the best engine for the chassis. Wondering what that means for engine development for Aston going forward though...

If aston designed their own V8, people would moan that it is not as good as the best turbo V8 on the market or even the audi biturbo V8 etc etc - the AMG biturbo

They needed a turbo V8, they saved a heap of money and ended up with the best and most characterful turbo V8 on the market. Not a bad thing in my book.

The golden age for Aston is over. They haven't got a single car left in the range that takes the breath away with its looks, it's not ALL their fault as the current frontal crash regs are spoiling modern cars but gorgeous new Aston Martin's stopped after the Mk2 Vanquish.

Well, if that makes your day, I'm pleased for you. Incidentally the Jimmy Saville / Jimmy Tarbuck types favored Rolls IIRC. And a lot of Astons found their way to the Far East etc. And I remember David Beckham having a V8 Volante in LA some years ago - he was hardly old then (yes, he was / still is white, albeit permanently suntanned).

Sadly, it's not just Astons that have become ugly. Ferrari have followed the same path. And it might be pushing it to call a McLaren pretty. Blame new money, blame crash regs, search for aerodynamic performance; whatever the cause, it's happened.

It looks great from most angles but lights too small / ridiculous front end. Nothing to do with anything other than poor design - did they design it in the dark? Frustrating as it now gets a decent engine & Merc Tech. Is beauty and performance impossible combo?
At least DB11 still looks good.

Having seen a couple in person it looks a million times better than in photos. Sadly haven’t driven one but having spoken to someone whose done a decent amount of miles in one already, it really is an amazing car to drive on the road, and properly fast.

Think this looks incredible, from the side the sillouette looks simple and elegant, from the back it looks fat, chunky and mean and from the front just looks so modern and fresh.

Quite possibly the best looking car on sale today in my opinion.

Saw one pass me on the M42 a few weeks ago, it’s stunning in the flesh.

Wish my lottery numbers would come up!

Maybe too much exaggerated body styling and to me the front looks almost cartoon like - Guppy with mouth open.
Surely AM are aiming more at the McLaren 570GT though it's more like an AMG GT inside. Maybe they are trying to make Aston appeal to a younger generation - does seem quite boy racer! If that's the case, they've probably succeeded. It does look zany, almost outlandish for an Aston. Will it date well?

Nasty looking thing - the rear is an unresolved mess of lines/panels, etc, and the front is blander than a bland thing. It's also rather expensive for what you get - give me an AMG GT every time.

It seems Palmer is doing a great job of getting all the correct elements in plCe to biild some fantastic cars. All the reviews so far seem to be very positive. Though some are not sold on the looks.
There is either not enough going on designwise above the grill or those lights are just too small. Otherwise it is is not as classic as the old one but it does look damn good and drive extremely well.
Will there be a V12?

PH’s 911 fan(s)atics are already out but it seems the only USP the 911 is left with now are large rear seats for those divorced fathers.

Well done Aston.
