Ford have unveiled the brand new mk4 focus, and since its not VAG Pistonheads can’t even be bothered to mention it.

I think it’s a good looking car apart from the grill, although I think the front is stolen from a Volvo V40, the roofline is off a A class and the rear is pure Kia ceed, but it’s better looking than the current model and the fiesta.

I dont really like it, the rear is indeed very korean, and the front, just like the new fiesta doesnt appeal to me in the slightest. Couple that with the complexity of modern cars and the troubles ford have had with several versions of the ecoboost, and im not even remotely tempted.

The last focus i'd buy with my own money would be a mk3 with the NA 1.6 lump.

Best looking one yet IMO.

The grill is the problem for me IMO.

Only way I can look at the front straight on is a lass doing a duck face.

The designers seem to take an existing design and then morph it into something more extreme.

That isn’t exactly what we want but what we get.

The original mark one focus was a breath of fresh air, beautifully designed and fit for propose.

Take the Ford badge of this one and it could be anything. Designers are trying just too hard to extend on existing similar designs rather than going in their own direction to give us something individual that can relate to their brands.

Looks very average.

Moan over.

Looks like the kind of stuff the Far East was producing during the last design cycle. The world has moved on.

I like it.

It's certainly more coherent than the previous model (before the facelift improved it a bit)

Looks very spec and colour sensitive. Like the look of the 5 door ST-Line in blue, but the estate is gopping.

The front does seem to replicate the looks of the current RS model, rear end looks a bit like an A Class.

Not entirely awful or anything, there'll be millions of them about regardless and I suspect it'll drive nicely.

Quite like the look of it; looks quite Volvo-ish from the front (who I think make the best looking cars at the moment).

I find it bizzare that the new version of one of the highest selling cars in the UK is released yet does not even get a mention on this site...

If it had a VW badge it would have been on in minutes

The front pictures remind me of an Axolotl for some reason. I was glad to get rid of my mk3.5 ST, doubt I'll own a Ford again. This mk4 just looks bland. And I believe that ford have changed the rear suspension...

I think its an improvement on the mk3 which was really poor from Ford, considering how game changing the Mk1 was.

the estate in particular looks good.

What I want to know is if they've improved the boot space. The mk3 hatch only gives 316 litres with spare wheel included, which is really poor. My old Mk1 provided 350. I couldn't consider a hatch with such a small boot. In this class 370-380 is now the average.

..the new Focus was on Autocar on line yesterday, so why no feature on PH? I do agree that PH is very pro VAG (and BMW!) and a new Golf for example would have been on here in seconds!

Looks decent, I agree about taking obvious inspiration from other brands. I think the current gen of the Focus looks like they've tried to make every variant sporty. Massive diffusers etc on a 1.0. This looks more naturally aggressive from the front, rather than just sticking bits of plastic bumper everywhere to try and make it look wide bodied as an after-thought.

That's what I thought, and Mazda 3 too.

In general, I like it

Though it does look a little Korean in places. The estate particularly from the rear 3/4 looks like an i40 or something. The general shape of the hatchback looks a bit more cab-rearward with longer bonnet a bit like the 1-series and A-class. If it works for the germans, then it'll work for Ford.

The interior looks rather nice to me, especially the Vignale. What I do not like is the very American feeling F O C U S lettering spread out across the boot lid. No thanks, I'd be taking a hair dryer and a scraper to those immediately.

I would have one of these no problem. It'll be a great car. (I'd be more likely to have a fiesta though as I like smaller cars.)
