In answer to the above question I'd say a better time is after the new car is launched and prices dip further smile

Biggest two problems with them are amount stolen and a disproportionate amount driven recklessly by young knobheads. It's the new Civic in that respect.
And i'm very happy about this! I'm seriously considering buying a ep3 Type R now that all the young chavs have Fiesta ST's instead, just need to find a nice stock one, sell the 335i and pocket the cash smile

I can't see any great difference between the interiors and the steering wheel arrangement actually allows you to see the instruments on the ST.
I wouldn't buy a car if I couldn't see the instruments, the small steering wheel, binical on top arrangement is fantastic plus the quality and appearance of the Pug's interior is simply much better but each to their own.

Anyone gone from MK5 GTI to ST180?

Have a GTI at the mo and have tried an ST very briefly. Coming from RS Renaults, was left a bit underwhelmed by the sheer emotion offered by the ST. But then again, the GTI also gets under your skin gradually. Wonder how they compare in the long run...
Interestingly enough i went the other way around. I found the STs ride a lot firmer than the GTI's. I find the Golf a lot more comfortable, probably helped by the fact its a 5dr. Unfortunately running costs are higher (Tax and fuel ect) for similar performance but i guess thats expected with an older car.

I was in the market for one of these around 18 months ago and it was frustrating how much used ST-2 and ST-3s were still selling for (and quickly) on the used market.

Any second hand dealer prices could easily be beaten by pricing up a brand new one via Carwow. They'd also be gone within a day or two so little chance of haggling much as they know they sell.

In the end it worked out as it made me look at a second hand MX5 ND instead, and haven't looked back smile

My point was it's 4-5 years older than the ST. Money and age wise a closer comparison is a 1.6 Zetec S , and the Renault would slaughter one of those.

My son has one, he is 22 and pays about a grand a year at the moment.

Its a great little car and I may get one myself (my TT isnt very well) as they tick a lot of boxes, fun, economical, look pretty good in a charmingly old school hot hatch way, only the slightly jiggly ride puts me off, and I would have to extract a bit more power.

Be interesting to see back to back comparison with the new one, also, anyone driven a Focus ST and how does that compare, better, worse or just different ?

There is a limit to how many Fiestas you can have on the drive though.....

Yep, I know, there is a white one for sale, we have a red one and the young lad over the road has a blue one, sort of Dagenham Italian job thing going on.

Three would be excessive and suggest some small Ford fetish that doesn't actually exist, not really much else that fulfils the same brief, can get a year old one for 13 grand or not much more.

His point is that you can get a similar performance hatchback, that's had nothing but praise from it's launch, for several grand cheaper.

Must say, Ford got all the right ingredients for this version of the Fiesta ST. A hot hatch in every sense of the word.

The looks of the car still hold their own (despite agreeing the wheels aren't all that) and although I've never driven one, I can imagine it's a lot of fun.

Interested to read the comments about the wheel design; what's wrong with the design? Love the fact they're so easy to clean!
I agree, wheels look OK to me. The wheels on the advertised car look dreadful... poorly painted. A nice gunmetal grey would be much better and lose the yellow callipers.

I really enjoy my ST-2. Was the best £15k I ever spent for a brand new car... great fun though not quite as raw as previously owned 182..
It is a good mix of being fun on the twisty roads and not too uncivilised on a long commute. I'm nearly at the end of 2 year pcp so will buy it and consider my options!! Shame to get rid with less than 6k on the clock!

Fair enough, but it's not a like-for-like comparison. If the Clio was a 2014 and 4k cheaper then that would be interesting...Most people looking for a four year or newer hot hatch, aren't going to be buying a 10 year old one. Why stop there. You could probably pick up a decent 15 year old 182 for 2k and save 7k over the Fiesta. A little down on power but you could pick up a 2014 Swift Sport for 6k.

I agree with the sentiment though. All great cars. smile

I’ve owned my ST for 4 years, and I often think about swapping it out for something more grown up to run alongside my GT3. Then I drive it again, and I am hooked.
It’s such a fabulous well balanced car, which rubbishes the notion that anything ‘new’ is not engaging or fun to drive.

Faultless during my 4 years of ownership.
Easy 40+ mpg* on a run.
Sub £200 insurance and the service plan is just £18 PCM.

I will acknowledge that ride is firm but this topic has been debated to death during previous threads.

Get over the badge snobbery (I always chose my cars based on how they drive, not their perceived image) and I guarantee that you won’t look back.

Nothing but praise? A clio 200?

As someone who owned a clio 200 full fat with cup pack 3.5 years ago I really didn’t get on with it. For overtaking it was frustrating to say the least, dawdlers doing 40-45 were a struggle. Right in between 2nd and 3rd gear. Stay in 3rd an you’re not on Cam and you get mugged off by 2 litre diesels, stay in 2nd and you’re revving the **** out of it.

Yes, yes it was naturally aspirated and ‘pure’, but actually the engine was like a sewing machine with less torque.

I swapped to a mk7 st much better car in every metric(apart from the shocking brakes on the st). The st would murder it down a B road.
I’m on my second st now, but this time mp215. I’m honestly struggling to find an everyday car that ticks all the boxes as well as the st does.

Great value for money, but it does come with the ‘gary’ image
