I like that it looks better with the hardtop.

And you can take the roof off this so your 300 bhp hot hatch falls at the first hurdle if you're looking for a 2 seater open sports car.

Not sure why anyone would compare these things to a hot hatch at all, they're completely different cars for different markets.
As above: " I am not sure it is that much more special than a top specced Mazda MX-5 however, which comes in 6-8k cheaper, and is widely considered the better driver's car. "

Just a pricey mess & the result looks cheap.
Have only seen one so far.
It's not a tart-cart for middle aged ladies, they'll keep to their SLK/SLC's.
Too pricey for office girls who can only afford a used MX-5.
Any TT is better.
Not fast enough for proper grown-up male Phers.
No cache in the badge.
Pokey interiors.
Kit-like bodywork obviously as add-on.
The question remains why?

Has anybody "on the inside" revealed anything about the business case for this car? Are the maths doing anything for Fiat?

I'm not surprised that dealers are open to negotiation. As another reader mentioned, I'd go used -- for an even better deal.

Definitely not a let's-compare-the-horsepower sort of buy. This car is about the experience, the sense of occasion.
Sales for Abarth UK are up 33% so imagine it’s working well within their lineup.

However it should be around £28k for the standard and £30k for this model. I’m sure with enough negotiation you could probably get close.

The S2K: isn't that a better option?
It's getting hard to find good ones - it's rather an old car now.

Love it. Nonsense and full of casual sexism.

I would take the Abarth over an Audi TT any day of the week.

No cache in the badge?, obviously doesn’t actually know much about the badge or history then.

Thanks for that.

I wonder how much margin is remaining for Fiat, once a 124 Spider finally arrives on the dealership forecourt, especially in the few and far-flung locations in the US. The prices there, by the way, are slightly less than the "should be" prices which you mention. (I include a rough estimation of sales tax so that we are comparing like for like)

If of interest, the full range of Fiat 124 Spider sells, in the US, a bit less than half the sales volume achieved by Mazda MX-5. And Fiat 124 Spider is in decline while MX-5 is rising. Data from links below.
