Actually enjoyed the first episode of QueenB's drift thing.
Not sure quite what to make of it. It's very well produced and she's fairly likeable and easy to watch.

But, it's also super fake and kind of like a big advert for Red Bull, the garage etc. The pretence is annoying, Red Bull set up every meeting clearly, it's odd to pretend it's just one big family and she's so lucky to bump into these people or get those introductions.

"I'm on a bit of a tight but budget" - except for the fact that red Bull are paying for the coolest car so it makes a better series.

STG and 'Lenny the Geezer' do make an amusing double act (in small doses) and can both play up to their stereotype well.

If only all other Youtubers had the same self awareness.
If I ran the TV channel Dave I would pay Lenny the geezer and Sam to.go around the world together

Its certainly done her profile good - she’s just been on the BBC One show doing donuts in her car. I doubt without the clout of Red Bulls PR team they’d have featured her.

Anyone else noticed that of late watching most of the generic large Brit auto youtubers is akin to the pistonheads version of the kardashians? Content is pretty lacking actual content... on all of them. They all seem to be trying to review cars yet not be journos, and pretty much every time the Carfection video of the same car/launch/event is much better. Their passion seems to be restricted to new supercars/limited run cars, nothing really to do with the wider car community or track/racing content. And by community - i don't mean the Dubai Supercar Club.

Whilst LLF is annoying at best (his ponderous 'concentration' face makes me laugh every time), he does seem to look at some interesting stuff. Also watched a good chunk of DannyDC2's content, pretty interesting as he actually does things, and things happen.

AH could of done some interesting race related content but instead just acts like a bellend around Imperial wharf in cars i imagine Redline have loaned him.

Am i getting old?
Nothing to do with age. As Shmee commented it is the older folk who can afford them who watch his supercar videos. The wider car community is in fact a number of communities with different interests. And it depends what you want to watch a car video for - to see the details of the kit etc, watch Shmee, to be entertained, watch STG or JWW, to have an analysis of the handling watch one of the traditional journos, and to watch fettling of cheaper stuff or dangerous driving watch a Youtuber I don't know about because I'm not part of the community interested in that stuff.

As much as I'd love Shmees job, and as much as I hate to call anyone a smug c*nt... well, you know where this is going.

I devour automotive content on YouTube way more voraciously than a man in his mid-30s should, but I very rarely give Shmee a view, even if I'm interested in the car.

I just find the man unbearably smug- I want to get over it and enjoy but I just can't. I'm sure Shmee will lose lots of sleep if he reads this internet no-marks comment, so my apologies to you Shmee- you probably are a fine human being (cheer yourself up while driving one of your supercars safe in the knowledge that I work a 'normal' job 5 days a week)!

Nothing to contribute here at all re Shmee and others being a 'scam' btw. I'm too old to grasp how that would even work.

Exactly how I feel. I find quite a few of the YouTubers annoying. I am sure they would not be keen on me either

whilst Queen B has ~40,000 followers.. ( a decade karting as a child and junior dragsters)

RedBull has over 7 million.. her drift episode 1 here on their account.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY0CtADeoWw

So RedBull seem very confident/committed

Her Shmee videos were good, not sure why that stopped. the new VBH?

I think the videos with other presenters on the Shmee channel just didn’t do very well.

Correct, they had very poor retention - the number one metric YouTube uses, and the knock-on effect is that your following videos have an adjustment based on previous performance. You have to keep an average level of frequency and quality (or at least YouTube seeing your audience as interested), to keep the channel flowing properly.

It was an idea I really hoped would be the next major chapter for my channel but alas it wasn't to be. With hindsight it makes sense as a viewer clicks a Shmee video with an expectation of what they are going to say, when somebody else's face then appears there will be some percentage of viewers immediately closing purely because it's not what they are used to. It doesn't take much to then give a negative impression to the algorithms monitoring retention and then it spirals from there.

Interesting interview with TGE and his brother. Answers a few of the questions asked here.

Both clearly intelligent lads who have made it by working hard. Not sure how you can knock them to be honest.

Thanks for that - very interesting watch. His brother does most of the talking which surprised me and seems to be the driving force behind their main business. An honest discussion.

A lot of the naysayers on here should watch that discussion, shows a lot about the real Tom and James.

For example, who here would have thought that ol’ spaghetti head is a fully trained barrister?! And Tom is a trained solicitor.

I hate to say this wink But I completely agree. They do not get the impression at all on the normal videos that they have the ability to construct sentences. Enjoyable video.

That was a seriously interesting piece. Fair play to their honesty on a lot of the questions as well.

Superb video. They're far more intelligent that the content they produce suggests, they're honest and don't sugarcoat how hard they work/why they work in the background.
