Are these vloggers just a scam?...

There seems to be an alleged scam happening with Stradman - His supercar raffle/give-way has kicked up a bit of a stink!
Is this the wave of the future now? where car vloggers with large subscriber counts make easy bucks from pumping the merch for a supercar prize to expand their own paid for out of the raffle monies/merch supercar collection?

Well if it's a scam he best get a lawyer and explain to the IRS why he didn't pay taxes on this raffle give away. I stopped watching Stradman last year, he's annoying and I found he was letting his YT fame get to his head.

Just watched the JWW video of him specking a Valkyrie. Bloody Nora there are some options.

I'm just glad he has chosen to take us, the audience, along for the journey and to show us the Valkyrie ethos and how the Aston Martin DNA can be seen in the design language of the car.....

Just paint it fking black!

‘Chosen to take us’ erm, if it wasn’t for YouTube he wouldn’t have the option!

The latest video from supercar driver with Carl Hartley is a refreshing change.
I thought it was very poor. Carl comes across as both very arrogant and gives very little insight into the supercar business. Of course he isn't going to give away any secrets with regard to his business but then whats the point of the video?
Don’t suppose he dropped in any details about his little contretemps with a roundabout in Sheffield after a few in the 19th ?

The Stradman comp thing is very odd. For those who don't follow, basically it was a giveaway of a tuned McLaren 570S where people bought merch to get entries into the competition. People started getting irked when Stradman initially made out that he bought the 570S himself to give away, but it was then revealed to be 'The Supercar Mafia', a company he owns along with some other people.

The biggest issue you find in the comments is that when he called the winner live to tell them they'd won the $150,000 supercar, it was some 60+yr old woman who clearly had no knowledge of the competition. The logical conclusion of this is then that she has a child too young to enter, who used mum's details/card to buy the merch and it just so happens they won. Totally plausible, could even have been for xmas presents or whatever, a shame it wasn't a petrolhead but meh. There was an option for taking $75,000 in cash as an alternative too, as a lot of state laws mean some winners could be liable for $20-30,000 in taxes when you win something of this value.

That was just the start of the oddities though. It clearly states in the rules that the winner needs to come to Utah to collect the car and a flight is included in the prize. The winner also has to agree to be on camera. Stradman has dropped the car off at McLaren Newport Beach for her to pick up as she has 'some family issues' and he hopes to film with her soon.

Understandably this has caused Internet Conspiracy Theorists (TM) to go into overdrive of course. Surely if she doesn't collect nor appear on camera she should forfeit the prize and it should be re-drawn? etc. Oh and plenty have done some digging and his business partner was convicted of raffle fraud about 10yrs ago.

Meanwhile it's complete radio silence from Stradman, likely under legal advisement. But there are hundreds of comments about it on every video and Insta post. It's an absolute mess.

Keep us in the loop for that one. I can't be bothered to follow these guys personally, but it's interesting to know.

Also, has salomondrin finished his melt down and stopped selling his cars?

Seems car giveaways are a big thing for American youtubers, Adam LZ is currently building an R33 give away, Motion Auto TV have done it, Tommyfyeah, Caleb Quanbeck and "Life OD".

I wonder how much this extra $ this brings in, obviously enough to cover the cost of the car + quite abit extra, Adam hinted at he was doing it due to a big financial event coming up this year, which I presume is his divorce.

I guess it allows them to make a lot of content on the build of the car beforehand which they'll make a lot on too, if it works it works! Seems a good way to keep content fresh and bring in new cars.

I wonder if it will catch on in the UK, or if there is legal issues with it, I see a lot of these car raffle businesses popping up lately.

I've given away a few sets of tyres to subscribers, not quite as exciting though hehe

Interestingly, in the last 30 days TGE has done more views than Sam even though Drive the world is officially on, and Archie another 50% on TGE. Only JWW is ahead, just, top of the tier 2 youtubers (if we call Tim the only UK tier 1)

Of what I call "tier 3", Joe Achilles is doing well at the moment. Though I don't follow many.

Oh, and congratulations on 40k subs Danny.

I've enjoyed a few Hubnuts videos recently as well. It's good to see people making content about 'sheds' as well as brand new vehicles (he detailing video on the red Skoda was better than most detailing videos I've seen as you could actually notice the difference).

The above recommendation reminds me I need to go back and finished watching his 2CV roadtrip series having only watched the first episode.
I'm strangely addicted to HubNut after finding his channel a few weeks ago. I think it's probably the stark contrast from the likes of SOL/TGE etc... there's no ego, production quality of the videos doesn't matter, he's not trying to impress anyone or be something he isn't. He's just a bloke with a passion for faffing around with old cars, love it.

If it's classed as a raffle then it's not going to be legal in this country. The only way to make it legal would be to have to answer a question and allow free entries.

So in theory a UK car youtuber could do that and say you get extra 'free entries' if you buy my merch which stradman did?

This is how Driftland has run their giveaways so I'm assuming, given that they are a somewhat legitimate company, that this is legal.

I totally agree. My favourite YouTube channel. Couldn’t be more genuine, just nice pleasant motoring content without all the “YouTuber personality” crap.

Is it any different to season 1?

Liking the plan Adam has for his cheap MX5 and showing you can have fun on a shoestring budget. His Honda track car has turned out really well too. Have to say I concur with his comments about sticky fingers and people sitting on your car at events.

Looking forward to some more E46 M3 content from Dan once spring gets here.
