There are quite a few manufacturers not at Geneva this year.
The industry (for the mainstream manufacturers) looks a bit stale. People are turning their back on diesel, electric is the future but we don't have the infrastructure required. It all feels a bit like treading water and seeing what happens next.
New infrastructure is being implemented on a daily basis, Hyundai and Kia are making good strides on making decent electric cars for a reasonable price. I wouldn't be suprised if the car market will have completely changed in 5 years time. It's probably why there haven't been too many "new" mainstream cars as they don't want to spend their development budget on something that might not be relevant in the relative short term. If Honda and NASA can somehow get a break through with their experimental Fluoride Ion batteries and get them to work in cars then the market will change overnight.
I feel Geneva reflects the overall fatigue in the automotive world. Manufactures show their cars before the show on social media, people go wild for a day or so until something new comes out and that "new" model from a couple days ago is now "old".
Bugatti tried to steal show with the "most expensive car in the world", I don't think they did. Aston & Koenigsegg came out with a new hypercars but I don't think they got the reaction they wanted. Lamborghini was pretty stale this year and same with Ferrari. I think we're reaching a peak with supercars and hypercars now, they use to be special because they weren't too many models around but now there's a new supercar model out every few months or a new hypercar every year. I think this is also reflective in the exotic car market as well.

Completely agree. The only time I get excited about an exotic/super/hyper car is when I see one on the road. That's such a rare event it still holds some magic for me. Media reviews and online footage are so dull by comparison I've given up watching.Who are these "I've just bought a …", "Should I buy a …" videos aimed at? Can't believe people can earn a living producing such vacuous garbage.
Sorry for the rant, it's been building up for some time!

Is anyone else finding this years Geneva a bit stale? I'm not sure if it's anything to do with the 'Tubers, it just seems like there aren't many exciting cars on the way.
Some manufacturers seem to have just made a few tweaks to the bodies of their cars and released them as "look at our new car (which isn't very different to the old one, but it's new, honest!)"
I was planning on going over for one of the public days as I've never been but glad I didn't as it seems a bit of a let down. I saw some footage from Joe Achillies on IG and it seems the best car there was a Singer...
The only other interesting car is the new 'Egg, but I find Christian to be a very interesting character to listen to when he's explaining what they've been developing.
Yes, unsubbed from a few channels until its over. Really couldn't care less and if I do, ill pick one presenter. Avoiding channel names to reduce the negativity towards certain people but there are a number of channels just putting out clip after clip...Some manufacturers seem to have just made a few tweaks to the bodies of their cars and released them as "look at our new car (which isn't very different to the old one, but it's new, honest!)"

I purposely didn't do any videos while out there. Just did a few Facebook Live walkarounds of the show and posted some pretty pictures.Absolutely no point putting out any regular content of any kind from the show with so many others doing it.

Looking at the viewing figures, it seems that Tim has done very well out of the Geneva show - 1.2m views in just 2 days for the Bugatti.
In the backend you can see a "Rolling 48hr Views" count which peaked at 2.6m for the channel; a record for my channel outright with the previous being 2.3m; and also up from 1.8m during Geneva last year.La Voiture Noire has of course been a hugely significant part of that; but knowing this in advance is why I was there standing in a spot to film from 8am (1hr before the presentation) having pre-checked with the Bugatti team for instant stand access afterwards, and pre-lined it all up with my laptop on and editing sequences loaded and ready so that I nailed getting it live as quickly as possible. I think a lot of people assume 'it just happens' but that was a lot of preparation and work, with a script roughly planned out from what I knew, research into the topic done, and everything prepped to make sure that would publish and propagate effectively.

As per my comment above, it depends on the nature of the channel but I think my audience expect this kind of event coverage which is why the channel just smashed its peak views whereas other channels going down this path haven't had the same success. To be blunt about it, the content is created for search traffic and not subscribers in these cases.ghost83 said:
Seems to be just a load of high end expensive cars that you can’t actiallu buy! Where are all the normal brands releasing their new metal at regular pricing
I fancy Frankfurt motor show but not if it’s goinf to be similar to Geneva
I don't think that's true at all; it's just what you see because people like myself only film the stand out top end stuff - however that's what my channel is all about and therefore I'm not here to cover the more regular cars in this respect. I think the Auto Express channel did a pretty good job of it though so check their videos here: https://www.youtube.com/user/Autoexpress/videosI fancy Frankfurt motor show but not if it’s goinf to be similar to Geneva
A few stands were missing including Ford, but there were vast presences from Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, Renault etc.

How prevalent are the youtube people? I can’t help but imagine half the hall walking around rabbiting to their own inverted phone in a squealing excited voice. Absolutely no point putting out any regular content of any kind from the show with so many others doing it.
I’m glad the last Geneva I attended was just before the massive rise in the amount of youtube people.

There were a lot there. You’ve got to think they’re from all over the world though, so plenty talking into their gimbals. I’m glad the last Geneva I attended was just before the massive rise in the amount of youtube people.

I've only watched a few videos of the show, mainly because quite a few of the channels I'm subbed to have covered the same cars so it can become repetitive.
Carfection has had some great, short videos though, Catchpole is always an easy watch.
I think Carfection works because many respect Catchpole's opinion. He for me conveys the perfect blend of technical and emotive feeling in his videos. They don't just keep pumping out rubbish for the sake of it... He also seems like a genuinely nice guy you would have a pint with. I was once on a launch with him at Ascari and in between events, I saw him writing up something. I presumed I'd missed some notes so asked, but no, he was handwriting his girlfriend a letter. I thought that summed him up nicely. Not texting, not emailing, hand writing.G

As for SOL having a video about what he would buy....why bother.
