Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc? (Vol 2)
Discussion
Just watched Queen B review the Aston Martin Vantage. Absolutely cracking looking car. A full race one will look epic. Don't want to put Becky's video down but personally I find her better to watch when she's just being herself. This comes across as if she's been reading the 'How to guide to presenting'' and phrases like ''quintessential English Britishness'' don't help.
Jon. Do you have a video about new tyre fitting and why you should fit the new tyres on the rear and not the front?
It seems to be a subject up for debate with a lot of owners, garages and even tyre manufacturers.
If you don't have a video like this already do you think something like that could potentially be added to your schedule?

Jon, will you be doing a ‘best off-road tyre for the new Jimny’ review/test. Though maybe don’t use TGE/AHR’s car as hearing ‘chaos’, ‘chaos’ 50 times would be too much...It seems to be a subject up for debate with a lot of owners, garages and even tyre manufacturers.

But given the general interest in the Jimny the views should be pretty good. Like 150k views for doing a bit of driving off road from someone who had fewer than 1k subscribers.

First video of hers I’ve seen. Clearly has bags of enthusiasm which is great to see. It just needs a bit of polish which will no doubt come with time. I think she’d have said more if she’d have managed to say half as much.Sometimes you need to let the car do the talking.

Just watched Top Gear Extra Gesr and Henry Catchpole and Paul Wallace were guests. Paul confirmed he’s still in training to become a pro drifter and is actually taking part in Gymkana Drift.
Does anyone actually enjoy watching drifting content? I find it great to do yourself but incredibly boring to watch, What are his motives for becoming a 'pro drifter'? surely this isn't his grand scheme to invigorate his channel?

Pauls Channel started heading downhill after he sold his Huracan and was trying to buy a house, he lost a lot of momentum imo. What are his motives for becoming a 'pro drifter'? surely this isn't his grand scheme to invigorate his channel?
Meanwhile, Mr Shmee, stayed renting and put all his money into his channel and bought car after car, which kept people interested and coming back.
So while Tim is buying millions of dollars in cars, Paul is getting terrible view counts for a channel with nearly 750000 subs.
Not sure drifting will turn that around, I hope something does though.

I genuinely wish him all the best, he seems like a nice guy. Unfortunately I find his videos increasingly difficult to sit through and it seems that I am not alone. When he’s at a press launch I’d pick Harry, then STG, then jww then shmee to warm. Shmee gets watched simply because of the toys which he owns...Meanwhile, Mr Shmee, stayed renting and put all his money into his channel and bought car after car, which kept people interested and coming back.

When the barrier to entry to being a car “journalist” is having a phone and a GoPro, it can’t be a surprise that manufacturers and dealers are becoming more selective about who they want to associate with.
I agree with this. There are so many channels now that it is hard to keep up. I have a life and can't afford to stay on YT for hours on end. So I started being more selective of what I watch.
For example I have all but lost interest in the "talking to my phone" type of channels. In the "look which car I bought" channels etc. They are the most numerous for obvious reasons. Anybody can do it, you can be an one man team, and it takes like what, an hour to film? While to make nice videos such as Petrolicious and the like probably takes a day or even more for a single video. So we have much less of that.
So YT is infested with these types of talking to my phone, talking to my gopro, talking to my camera standing alone on a tripod channels. I have started skipping them. It seems they are all doing the same thing. It has gotten boring.
Then there are in depth reviews such as carwow. I will only go through that if I'm interested in buying the particular car. But I guess this is what these reviews and channels are for.
So I have been watching mostly videos with good production. Videos which seem they are trying to accomplish something. A bit more polished. I don't need Top Gear polish. Not the point. But something that shows they are at least trying something besides just piling up views. That seems like they are tying to give good content and not just speaking their minds to the camera and wiggling it or phoning it in. That's more what I'm looking for instead of videos about vloggers bragging about their cars or just people talking to phones and gopros.

I did laugh when we were at Lydden Hill and every 5th session was for drifters. This old boy suddenly piped up ''bloody hell, it looks like a load of bloody joy riders have been let loose!''.
Good to see Adam is making some vids again too.
I love this from Hoonigan. Who wouldn't want an E46 to sound like this?
