The numbers sound big but in reality they’re probably on line with someone earning £24,000 per year whilst having a Golf GTE or something similar on PCP for £300pcm. That’s a good 12.5% right there.
Thats a ridiculous comparison as someone on £24k a year may need a new and reliable car to guarantee they'll be at work every day. They can't afford to run around in a £300 snotter, even if the PCP payments are painful.p1stonhead said:

If you were earning big money and it was an irrelevance such as the footballers etc then perhaps, but to spend that on hire effectively is crazy. Guess its the need it, want it, have it now.
In some circles, image matters and of course you want to people to know you're doing well so they will do business / hang out with you. I don't know how much actual driving satisfaction is derived from temporary ownership but some combination of both is the reason you would throw away £1k a month. Is that any worse than someone who hasn't got two pennies to rub together spending £500 a month on a toy?Whilst the majority of vloggers are buying the same cars then not using it , it’s good to see hubnut driving his 2cv from wales to Croatia .
He may not have the money of others but what he does have is the ability to create a story , to have the viewer onboard hoping he actually gets to the destination.

Still sounds a chunk to my mind to rent a car, knowing it will be handed back with little equity. Earning 6-9k per month to give away 10-16% of salary to rent a car thats a weekend toy to my mind sounds madness. Doing a search of Golf GTE leases found this page https://www.cars2buy.co.uk/personal-car-leasing/vo...
48 month lease
Deposit : £3290.54
Monthly £365.62
Admin Fee : £360
Are people on £24k a year really paying £20834.68 to rent a car for four years and 32k miles?
I would imagine that £15k down £1300 a month Lambo is limited to 5k miles a year.

Are there seriously people earning £24k a year who are driving around in £34k Golf GTEs? £24k is £1,654.65 take home a month.

I personally don't think so, those figures aren't attractive even to a 'YOLO' average earner IMO.Doing a search of Golf GTE leases found this page https://www.cars2buy.co.uk/personal-car-leasing/vo...

However, I have seen people on BMW forums PCP'ing an M140i @ £390pm + £390pm down whilst living with parents on £22k... Paying £2k+ on insurance then struggling to put petrol in them and looking for any way out. So, yeah it does happen but the GTE example is a poor one.

Noted - Back on track, LLF reviews a shed, literally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3eHS6jobrQThis is about Vloggers NOT if someone on £24k can afford a GTE!
Tragic ... In my opinion, of course.
Nothing wrong with a £300 banger. Until recently I had a Toyota Starlet which I bought for £300. I ran it for 18 months and the only thing I had to fix (over and above consumables) was a £5 headlight bulb holder plus a mate soldering it for me. I even sold it for more than I paid so I got my money back plus what I'd spent on running it! As Hubnut would say, that's good bangernomics.
My Lexus on the other hand has been far more needy and costly to keep running but at least I can park it on the drive at no cost if something goes wrong as there's no monthly outlay just to have it.
To me getting a PCP/lease on a brand new car is like throwing money down the toilet in an attempt to impress other people.

I work with a guy who after his shed failed it's MOT decided to lease an M140i. Now admittedly I estimate he earns double the £24k salary example, but he also has around £30k of credit card debt. A few months after getting it he was telling me that he was getting 240 miles to a tank around town and that he was definitely going to exceed his agreed mileage limits when he handed it back. He then told me that despite us only getting paid a week previously he had £280 of his £1200 overdraft remaining to last the month. However, I have seen people on BMW forums PCP'ing an M140i @ £390pm + £390pm down whilst living with parents on £22k... I am sure there are millions of people in a similar situation, I am sure there are people paying £1350 a month for a lambo who regret it after the excitement and novelty wear off.

Do you have a YouTube channel? My Lexus on the other hand has been far more needy and costly to keep running but at least I can park it on the drive at no cost if something goes wrong as there's no monthly outlay just to have it.

To bring this back on track, as a shed owner myself I would much rather watch Hubnut pick up a shonky Daimler or DannyDC2 replace the front wings on his Audi a6. The SOL, TGE, Seb, STG, Archie videos are all so boring now, although Tony is great with his sarcasm. This is about Vloggers NOT if someone on £24k can afford a GTE!
The only other channel I religiously watch is Goonzquad, the attention to detail and the fact these guys do everything themselves is amazing. It is almost comical watching B is for Build (Bodge) in comparison.
I must admit that although I still follow the usual suspects, I very rarely watch their videos nowadays and if I do, I tend to skip the majority of it.
It's all so out of touch, fair enough if you're watching for that very reason, but I much prefer to watch videos of cars that are affordable or at least within reach. So, for that reason the channels that stick out are: Danny DC2, JayEmm, LLF and MonkyLondon...

Agreed, I was absolutely loving MonkyLondon's videos about his Max Power Green Calibra, shame it has all gone quiet on that front. It's all so out of touch, fair enough if you're watching for that very reason, but I much prefer to watch videos of cars that are affordable or at least within reach.
