Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc? (Vol 2)
Discussion
Regarding SOL, I think he should copy the Vehicle Virgins daily vlog method, get a supercar he can daily or take on trips along with a daily-able RS3, A45 type car, do all the usual mod/tune/wrap videos, drive them down to monaco for spotting videos and into London to meet TGE and Archie, go to every launch and test event they let him, hit up the Aston and Lamborghini garages for test drives of whatever they'll let him, just churn out at least four videos every week, the youtube algorithm will do the rest and keep his viewing figures decent enough to live off. I'm not saying it's content Pistonheads will love, but it's content Youtube viewers will watch and that's all he really needs.

Isn't this basically what he does anyway?Staying relevant is a struggle but for some YTers I'm not so sure it's that much of a worry.
I think this is an interesting point and one I think I raised well into this long thread's past but as the platform evolves it looks like youtubers split into a few categories
You have Shmee/Metcalfe/Catchpole they can do the same thing over and over because they nailed the format and the subject is more important than they are in the content. You can picture Tim in an old people's home giving an imaginary walkthrough of a mobility scooter (and probably 3 more in the same week on different continents whilst having his own scooter flown over for the trip) 10 million views.
The next crowd is the popular now but faddy crowd so JWW/SOL/STG these are nice chaps but you can foresee them running out of steam and finding the pull of the family business becoming too strong once their Rumspringa years are over. Top out at 100k and cant consistently crack it.
Then there's everyone else the 20k average view guys that you have heard of but don't have that mass appeal. Producing watchable but niche content. They will keep going until their savings run dry or they get bored.
I must confess that although a total car obsessive living working and breathing cars I'm finding myself watching hardly any car content. It's a pretty boring subject really let's face it. This why Top Gear long ago became an entertainment show. Because the subject matter it's only intermittently interesting.
Will there be another breakout car youtuber? In the UK I think it's actually unlikely in the short to medium term. In the US it's another world for youtubers. One or two of the smaller British tubers would do well to move to the US as the market for consumers seem to be hugely bigger than in the UK.

Yeh me too. Loads of independent finance brokers could have facilitated the sale so I’m not sure how or why redline are even involved.
Redline playing the long game now paying off? They must have a good database of bought and sold vehicles to vloggers. The buyer rings up redline "let me know if you get a SV in as I'm looking for one". Redline immediatley picks up the phone, "Tom you looking to sell your SV?" Tom: "how much?" £xxx says redline. Tom: "done". And another video in the bag!I think this is relevent to the topic of this thread - and the word scam. Is the image presented on YouTube different to that of reality?
TGE sells the car to his mate, who contacted him directly. So what exactly is Redlines involvement? Did they own the car anyway? Could explain the low miles he did with it?

Except he didn’t even buy it from Redline...TGE sells the car to his mate, who contacted him directly. So what exactly is Redlines involvement? Did they own the car anyway? Could explain the low miles he did with it?

The majority of these are on very strict leasing agreements, or if somehow bought, are petrified to put any mileage on the car in case it dents the value...TGE sells the car to his mate, who contacted him directly. It is how the other half live. Talking of dealerships, I have not seen Tony from Gravelwood in many of Archie Hamilton's videos of late, or even Sam from Seen Through Glass dropping in for a chat.
Going back to Redline, they appreciate the publicity, might have helped prepare the car for the "unveiling" for TGE's mate. Also creates a spare garage space for another car in the near future gotta keep churning out the content, I guess

I suspect we might be turning a corner with the 'top' UK 'tubers'. They can't all be a huge success and to be honest, they're a novelty. Watching the endless flipping of new metal is akin to the transient and pointless nature of social media, and so longevity is something that needs very careful management and planning by those with an eye on the future. You're right, Paul's little corner of the market has plateau'd to the point where most of us are simply waiting to hear his Lambo's exhaust... and then moving on. I respect tried and tested opinion by those who've been there and done that (Harris/Catchpole/Smith&Sniff), and know that every time I choose to watch something, I won't get that time back, before I return to the real world rather than the virtual one. Re JWW, well he's had a charmed business life and married into the Cooper dynasty and Tim is of the Burton family retail empire prior to Arcadia, hence they don't have to ensure their content is absolutely relevant and beautfully presented to earn a crust. Paul has to choose the correct direction or partnership to maintain subscribers.
It's been a while since this was brought up. It's not true, by the way. Confirmed by Tim many times. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
