I think there is a clear divide here...
In my opinion, on one side you have the serious motoring journalists who describe the car they are testing in some detail; mostly technical and show / test the car at its limits. On the other side, you have the "influencers" who will test a car and cream their pants over the colour of the car key, the stitching on the steering wheel and judge the car by how loud the exhaust is, whilst using "yoof" words like "epic" and "cool" and delivering their report like a squealing schoolgirl. There is a market for both styles of delivery and I do think each respective side does very well for their own audiences. I favour the serious motoring journalist approach over the squealing schoolgirl approach, but I absolutely respect that we are all different. Live and let live.

Totally agree, with me it must be an age thing because a chap who works for me is always on about Shmee, I have watched one of his videos but have watched and made decisions on two of my cars following a report by Chris Harris. I watched a very good test/presentation on tyres the other day and I guess I go on to Youtube to learn something. In my opinion, on one side you have the serious motoring journalists who describe the car they are testing in some detail; mostly technical and show / test the car at its limits. I enjoy both. Usually go to Tim’s videos for the in-depth details, technical bits, and Harris for how the cars drive. Used to love the Harris on cars series.
But at the same time it depends on the car, the A45s is a daily driver probably bought by people of average driving ability to sit in traffic with the odd squirt here and there and I doubt many will see a track day/ go beyond the limits so that kind of review on the car to me is a bit pointless.
If it was a caterham/lotus/ track day toy that was being tested then yes, the balance and how it acts beyond the limit is absolutely important. And that would be the difference to me in what Tim reviews and what Harris reviews.
I like Chris and have followed him for years but maybe that comment was a bit ‘grumpy old man’ seeing all these youngens’ with little to no driving history (like ex race drivers etc) being invited to the same experiences.

This is why I like watching JayEmm. Other than the fact he is a thoroughly decent bloke, he doesn't do the click bait st, he delivers his content with through and in a calm manner. He can get a bit excited, but we want that, that shows enjoyment and passion. I don't want that all of the time as it feels forced and fake.
I haven't watched any of Tim's videos and I have ceased to watch top gear, so cannot comment, but I think there is room for both types. Chris has been in the game since old money. Tim and the current social media are new money. It is just the way it is.

I agree and this little "banter" happens in many industries between old process and new process.
Ultimately they are all making money doing something they enjoy and fair play to them. I wouldn't mind some of the cars but I'd not want their life styles particularly. Lots of travel has been something I've turned down in my own career.
That said if you are operating a certain way and others call you out on it, it's a bit silly to strike back unless their claims are somewhat unfounded.
I've not driven the car so I can't say if Chris has just picked a car to have a rant or he believes it. Perhaps the car is somewhere in the middle and he has gone a bit too far one way while the influences have unanimously gone too far the other way.
Only one of the two exists in the old world, but now in the new world both can exist.
Fwiw I'd rather have something that is entertaining but not reliant on having to say every car is boss. I'd rather pay for a hybrid solution that carries some of the fun and insight of one while having the integrity and nitty reviews of the others. Or I can just continue to pick and choose.

Just out of curiosity, any reason why you haven't watched any of Tim's videos? I mean, he's been around way longer than JayEmm whom you've watched so you do watch YouTube videos so I'm surprised you haven't watched Tim's out of curiosity but obviously clicked on JayEmm's videos for car content. Lost interest on top gear also since Clarkson & Co left unfortunately. Watched a bit of the new series but just don't get the same excitement from it anymore. JayEmm's stuff i do watch and "The Car Guys" who I'm surprised don't get a mention here. They do produce some very good stuff with plenty of variety around modern and classic cars.I haven't watched any of Tim's videos and I have ceased to watch top gear, so cannot comment, but I think there is room for both types. I have noticed that many of the usual suspects videos have started to get even more pleading with regards to likes and subscriptions of late. So either Youtube has altered the algorithm again or people are starting to get bored of this sort of ste. I suspect when people start to fall away from these channels many will lack the creativity to create content beyond the above dross.“I’m buy the new ****?!”

I wouldn't even put Tim/Shmee in the influencer category. You don't see him flying around to every press event blagging on about how the latest Kia estate car is the best car ever and perfect because it has a cubby box big enough a phone that you can buy with his super special discount code, and it's plain to see how hard he's worked (and still working) to grow his brand.
I think it's quite sad that Chris has beef with Tim for whatever reason though. Tim has said many times in the past that he doesn't class himself as a journalist so it's not as though he'll be treading on Chris' toes there.
