I'm regularly invited on new car launches, I turn them all down as I find manufacture launches too controlled and much prefer to live with a car first and test them on roads I know well before passing any comment on them.
So do a lot of us

That was one nutty trip. The further we travelled towards the Sahara, the crazier it became. It was not a trip to consider any sort of 'what ifs' as you were basically on your own out there.

If the Testerossa had decided to properly pack up, then I would have had to organise my own transportation out of the country, as the normal AA and RAC type of rescue services don't cover Morocco. Got away with that one but then it was a very memorable trip..
Did a lot more happen you could perhaps give us a glimpse of here?

Interesting; the cars I own need to interest me and offer a different drive experience to anything else in the garage. Whether they generate any extra views is immaterial and never considered. Then I look at cars like Senna/Pista/F12TDF etc and wonder do they actually offer any more 'bang for buck' than cars that are considerably cheaper?

It used to be you bought cars to give you pleasure, not a return on your 'investment' and I think the tide is turning on this because there are simply too many specials being launched for the today's car enthusiast market to absorb.

I have bikes as well as cars in my collection and my ultimate 'Dakar' bike is probably my Cagiva Elefant 900ie. It was a limited run (1000) replica of the 1990 Dakar winning bike and cost me £7000. I rode it across a bit of the Sahara desert for my sixtieth birthday last year and you simply can't put a price on that. In terms of bang-for-buck it's off the scale.

In the car world, the latest crop of limited run supercars get replaced far too quickly and I'm not sure they offer great value over something like a Ferrari F40/F50 or Carrera GT. They're newer and more powerful but are they actually better/more enjoyable too? Hmm. Look what Alpine has done in the sportscar marketplace, then consider something similar in the supercar arena..
The new Corvette might stir up the supercar world a bit..
value and designed to do bug mileages and low (relatively) running costs.
That and naturally aspirated V8, vs turbo everything bar R8,Huracan.. Though, I'm sure it will end up supercharged, either official and/or aftermarket

I think the others should take a long hard look at Harry's Garage, it really is a great example of how to do it.

Harry has a varied and interesting collection, gives honest reviews on modern cars, doesn't rush, is knowledgeable and engaging. He doesn't need to do "look at me collecting my £££££££ financed car" to grab a headline. That to my mind, is paying to win.

Yes, I understand these channels are a business, but like any business, integrity and being unique are important.

Completely agree, just put more eloquently than I can. biggrin

Yes, I'd love to drive a Senna, would I buy one if I could? No. I'd rather have more varied and interesting cars. I'm not averse to new at all, i'd have a new Lotus in a heartbeat (despite their crazy pricing these days), I'd have an F12 TDF, or a 720s for the ludicrous speed and drama. I just don't understand the point of having a number of fast modern cars that do the same thing. There are a plethora of interesting cool and unique cars out there, regardless of age that will create interesting content.

I have a Kia Optima work car an S2000 i'm working on, and a 205 GTI restoration project I'm also working on. All varied and offer something different.
Its certainly not jealousy or anything at all, I just wish people would be more dam creative and do what comes from the heart, not trying to out spend another youtuber to get more views rolleyes

Just unsubscribed from TGE (I'm sure he's devastated).

Last 2 things I saw was his Instagram stories which was at least half a dozen endorsements (no actual content) then a video where he says something about it must have been 10 minutes by now so it can finish, and he hopes we watched the adverts. There's being relaxed about the whole social piece and there's just arrogance.

I couldn't believe it when he said that... think it, but don't say it. Shades of Gerald Ratner there.

I've always liked TGE for his openness, I subscribed because he admitted his content was drivel, he joked about the adsense and getting the video above 10mins. So I would rather he did say it out-loud than think it.

However, his last few videos have really been bad, it's like his heart just isn't in it anymore. The video with his brother in the Bentayga was just next level bad, JE acting like he's coked up and TGE sat in the passenger seat like the comedown has just kicked in but he knows he has to get through this video.

I hope he can turn it round because his target audience (I guess ages 13 - 30) are very fickle and jokes can become old and they move on to the next flavour of the month.

I don’t subscribe to some of these mainstream Vloggers.
I follow Shmee on Instagram though.

I’ve just watched TGEs Bentayga video purely because you have mentioned it about and think ‘why do people watch this?’

Does he only do it because he knows it’ll bring income in? Fair play to him.

Imagine fking about on a video and seeing some little kids bring in the views which brings in the £ purely because there is supercar content in it.

His new video is how he has had to sell his gold Porsche. Thumbnail is head in hands clockbait.

Has he actually used that car for any content apart from the collection video? I wonder if he made money on it?

This is why I'll never understand the hate. Everyone in his position would do it too if they could.

The guy who I really don't take to is that Phil Dixon guy who bought TGE's car and asked Redline to do a mock handover just so he could make a YouTube video that got him views and subscribers so he can be YouTube famous.

Yes, it has appeared in a few of his videos; a drive to Monaco, houndstooth seat etc. Do I recall him going to a VMAX200 type event in it?

Looks like Tavarish is losing his way a bit. A lot of unfinished projects and a lot of time passing between major milestones.

I suspect this will happen to a lot of the buy -> rebuild -> sell crew because they are reaching the limits of what can be done and interesting in a 2-3 month window.

Would also like to echo that I love watching Harry's videos. Really interesting content. Especially loved the SL600 one where you demonstrated the smoothness of the V12 by balancing the coin on it.

The pistonheads rise and drive video was also decent.

Cannot stand the chap. Absolutely atrocious.

How do you know that whole handover debacle was staged?

Maybe slightly off topic but considering the amount of stuff I watch on YouTube (can watch hours a day vs. never turning the TV on), I am considering getting the Premium offering. I understand this not only removes ads but offers an increased rate for content creators too.

Is this something you can track in your statistics? If so, what sort of percentages are any of you seeing? With YouTube being free for so long, I can't imagine the percentages are very high.
I watch a fair bit of Youtube also so I went ahead and went Premium. I'm pretty happy with it. Occasionally I'll click a link that goes to a non-logged in browser and I'll see an ad which reminds me how annoying they were, been a while since I dealt with that. I'm aware of the ad blocker option but I don't think it's really fair to just watch all this content and not give anything back to those who provided it. There are a few side benefits too like being able to download things for offline viewing or keep playing videos while your device is locked.

I remember watching his channel when he around 1000 subs. His best stuff was around the time he got his S Class but now it seems like his channel got too big for him to handle. Churning out daily content is hard work but issue with him is he doesn't stick to one project so his content is all over the place.

Supposedly he's addressed the issues with the lack of uploads and said he was doing everything he can. I don't think he's cut out to be a full time YT'ber.

Lol, I think you had a few things sail over your head, that 10 mins thing has been a bit of a running joke for Tge a while now, I am never offended, I just laugh!
