I wouldn't say it was acceptable, I also wouldn't say it was unacceptable either. It was somewhere in between. It seems he was only really accelerating where he had good visibility and driving much slower where visibility was harder. If there were such a definition as speeding WITH due care and attention this would be it.
Damp conditions, tight bendy road, solid no overtaking lines there for a reason and busy with plenty of oncoming traffic. Joe Achilles is generally one of the more sensible and professional youtubers but that was an unacceptable time, place and conditions to be driving like that.

Man like Rick. Man like Tom. Well sick.

I am dumbfounded that Joe has been fined and given points and yet Ricky (LLF) still has a license quite honestly.
It beggers belief that he in a world where YouTube censor and the demonetise anything political or sweary they allow his blatent dangerous behaviour on there

Damp conditions - Hardly soaking wet, driving was well within the capabilities of the car, tyres and driver with speed appropriate for the slight dampness IMO. A little bit of damp doesn't automatically reducing the safe speed for a corner to an arbitrary level - should be a dynamic assessment of conditions etc

Tight bendy road - irrelevant and half the fun - whats the point in straight line point and squirt?

Overtaking lines - He didn't cross them, so what if they're there - makes it safer in a way(see below)

Oncoming traffic - a risk but was moving slowly behind traffic and wouldn't be crossing due to aforementioned solid lines, speed wasn't excessive given this

You seem to care a lot about defending a random bloke on a driving video who is clearly taking the piss on a public road...

Thing is, Joe may be able to safely drive a car at speed on the public road. Plenty of other people can't. Saying it's OK for Joe would be saying it's OK for the idiots who can't drive safely at speed.

It doesn't matter. We're all bound by the same laws. If the silly sod wants to publish a video of himself on the internet breaking the law in order to make a profit from it, he (or we) ought not to complain if he gets busted.

No, it wasn't crime of the century, no kittens were harmed, but it is a road where the Police focus enforcement due to a poor accident rate and publishing the video was a daft thing to do.

No doubt Steve Callaghan will be dusting off his Dirty Harry blazer and asking other YouTubers; "This is the most powerful Google Maps Pro in the world. It could blow your driving licence clean off. In all the excitement I forgot how many right clicks I did, was it 5 or was it 6? Do you feel lucky, punk?"
This is true - why should the law take into account car and driver ability? There needs to be a line in the sand, however irrelevant that is. For the record, i haven't seen the video so am not commenting from that perspective.

By the way janesmith1950, you are much funnier away from the football threads....

He was far from taking the piss - try looking up one of the of-quoted piss take channels (DMO/LLF/SS)

I'm not Joe, just a bloke that lieks to head out into the countryside and drive (safely but with regard for speed appropriate with the conditions, not a random, reduced number on a stick) that's hugely frustrated at the direction this is going and the faux social/media outrage this story is generating (including on here) and the future direction of travel.

I probably would. It's quite funny and it doesn't need to be messed about with in terms of spacing to "work".

The R8 vid didnt look that dramatic but the M240i one had my heart in my mouth, he nearly binned that, racing driver or not.

I have a fairly high threshold for car speed fkwittery compared to most of the public, but that just seemed mental, Ricky is used to trolling round folk with modified cars and getting on it, he was absolutely papping himself and wanting it to stop.

Its funny how racing drivers are regarded as better drivers, but I wonder what the insurance risk as a job, if you put that down as your occupation is compared to an office worker ? over the years they do seem to, as a breed find lots of opportunities for managing to kill themselves. Will obviously have better car control than the average driver, better reactions (possibly) but does the title cause them to write more cheques their skill can actually cash.

A few of us live near there and regularly use the road. At the right time of day or evening, it is a great place to make progress, but I've seen so many errant sheep and cyclists along there, hidden entrances, off camber bends, uneven "yumps" from subsidence, and there is very little room for error - yes there are a few bits where you can plant it, but there are better roads nearby for giving it some welly.

If that was filmed on the roads around Hope or Edale, only a few miles in the other direction - it would have made for much more cinematic viewing, and less likely to have caused this outcome. Hindsight is always 20:20 though....

It's rare to cross the pass and not see either a camera van or another vehicle having a close call, it's closed fairly regularly for accident clean-ups and it is no suprise that the police have used Joe as an example.

100%. That must have been 100+mph no question at the start of the video on that small B road. There is a moment where the back unsettles and the driver gets back on the power to stablize the car where you really get a sense for the speed they were doing. You have to be going very fast to get the car unsettled in the way they did.
Way above 100mph I reckon. The m240i is flipping fast as stock even. Wouldn’t be surprised if that was 120

We all like those moments where we can press on, but I'd hope most of us are sensible to read the road conditions and act accordingly. Defending Joe because "he's a nice bloke" doesn't wash; he's as much a danger on the road as anyone else, experienced or otherwise; life doesn't discriminate. It seems youtubers push the limits of acceptability for the sake of some adsense; it is only a matter of time before something serious happens.

Where I live, there is a remote straight piece of road often used as a drag strip (MrJWW for one uses it!). You'd be amazed at how many cars and bikes speed up it at 150mph+ in wet/damn conditions. It also has a badger crossing! It would only take a moment of timing to cause road fatalities; I'd feel sorry for the badger!

Be sensible when pushing on, assess the road conditions, temps, vehicles around you, exit and entry points etc; make sure you get home to your families safe.

That guy driving (Tom) is a former Porsche GB Carrera Cup driver. While he might have the talent you'd think he'd have the brain not to drive like that on the public road.
