RE: Shed of the Week: Range Rover
Discussion
Got mine in November last year £1550 I did try and get the £50 more off but no.
Its Red, Completely standard no messing, I have changed the wheels for 19" as they were cheaper then 4 tyres! It did A.. Break down on the way home, Recovered. B, Broke down two weeks later, Recovered. Since then its down about 7k miles and is doing another 1000 miles this weekend and towing a caravan to Spa Francorchamps in a few weeks.
Parts that have failed, Front and Rear Diff, caused by excessive use while viscous coupling was on its way out. Totally Its cost me about £2300 including some workshop work. (Viscous Coupling is mounted to the transferbox. I am not lifting that in.)
If you are handy with mechanics these are good cars and parts can be got cheaply. Don't knock what you haven't tried.

Why are so many Brits so scared of a few inches of snow? The fact that we had zero issues and the journey took only half an hour longer than normal just shows how weather warnings are dumbed down to the lowest common denominator to cope with people that have neither the skill or equipment to drive in anything more than a light covering of snow.
Don't measure me by your inabilities
A few miles from me hundreds of people were forced to sleep in their cars on the motorway due to being stuck during the red weather warning. Do you think your superior driving skills or equipment would have got you home when they couldn't? The reason the motorway became impassible was because HGV's got stuck and blocked the road on an incline. The fact you made your journey safely was more luck than anything else. All it would have taken would be a HGV to jackknife in front of you and block the road. Ignoring the Met Office/Police/Government advice that day was incredibly stupid thing to do and believing your driving skills are enough to keep you out of trouble is idiotic.Don't measure me by your inabilities
That will be the last thing I say on the matter so go on, you can have the last word if it will make you feel like a man.
Back the Range Rover...
Only experience I have of the P38 is when I sold a car and the transport ‘company’ arranged by the buyer turned up with a P38 and trailer. First thing the driver did when he arrived was pop the RR bonnet and connect an electric tyre pump to various tyre valves under the bonnet. I’m not convinced this was a fully functioning OE air suspension system. More of a Heath Robinson Load Leveller. Some fluid loss somewhere too, looking at the water containers littering the interior...
With Classic RR prices the way they are the P38 is starting to go up too... buy now while you can. No, honestly. You know you want to. Much classier than a land cruiser...

My mate bought a 2.5 Dse a few years ago.
Green with missing lacquer, and a st brown interior, carpets, seats, headlining.
It had nearly 200k on it, and was still on air.
Was slow, wallowed in the corners and it was brilliant. His wasn’t far from shed budget.
However, you need a lot of brave pills to run one.

Why would you need to be handy wih spanners if the cars were any good? I've not spent £2,300 in car repairs since I started driving in 1991Its Red, Completely standard no messing, I have changed the wheels for 19" as they were cheaper then 4 tyres! It did A.. 150 miles to go in these conditions to get home. No winter tyres. Took 5 hours but I made it...
I had one in 2016. Cost me a grand for 1997 4.6 V8 converted to direct injection LPG with the spare wheel well tank. Absolutely loved the thing. It had a few common issues, one of which was NOT the air suspension luckily. Worked an absolute treat.
And then it spat a liner. Sold it for £850 so only lost £150 in a bout 9 months.
Oh, apart from the hundreds and hundreds it cost me in fuel. Even on LPG! Averaged 11mpg.
